Unbolt the clutch pressure plate from the flywheel through the access hole in the bellhousing.

Hey, wargasm made a video for pull type clutches a while back. Very good in detail and it shows exactly what to do.

I dont know how to post videos so i'll give you the link.

you just have to press the release fork in from the maintinence hole on the driver side of the tranny and then from the bottom or top hold the little ring that goes around the imput shaft in and kind of pry it away from the release fork while you let go of the fork. The video shows you exactly what you need to do. I hope what I just wrote made some sort of sense to you.

ok none of the above works!! the video was great but it is impossible to depress the whole ring with only a screwdriver as only 1/4 of the ring will depress when you push it with the screwdriver. if i could get the ring down i could pull this thing out but with the bellhousing on i cant see how to get that whole ring down.

also i cant unbolt the clutch plate as the tranny will only rotate so much around the engine before it just stops moving any further. i have one bolt off the clutch plate but i cant get to any of the others (im assuming there are about 5)

what do i do now? anyone have any other tips?? i need to get this thing separated ASAP!! so im getting pretty frazzled

You need to turn the engine over with a wrench on the crankshaft bolt. Then you can undo the PP bolts one at a time.

Huh?

Push the throw-out bearing onto the pressure plate. While they are together (which pushes the wedge collar (ring) onto the pressure plate), use a long screwdriver to stick it between the throw-out bearing and the ring. Then just pop the throw-out bearing back leaving the ring in the pressure plate.

If you already have the engine and tranny out of the car, there should be no pressure on the slave cylinder so you should be able to just push the throw-out bearing towards the front of the engine without any problems.

paw: i dont really want to turn over the motor as the previous owner got all kinds of crap in it... i dont want to score the housings by getting som debris stuck in there so i hope to try and flush it out somehow and maybe salvage this block (when i turned hte motor on its side a bunch of water and debris came out of the exhaust port)

mahjik: i saw that video that wargasam did for reference... it shows pushing the ring towards the flywheel... once it snaps in place you can pry the release bearing out. my problem is that i cant depress that whole ring... i can only get one side of it down (not enough to get the release bearing out)... maybe i am understanding this wrong, but im pretty sure i get the procedure... im just not sure how to accomplish this since i cant get that whole ring down

I had better luck with the flat-side of the FD's lug wrench than any screwdriver I tried.

you only need part of it down, but the more the better, i just push it down with a screw driver and have a buddy tap the fork with a hammer and it pops right out. Before i did know how to do it and just have to wedge something between the or pressure plate to stop it from moving and unbolt them all, much more a of PITA.

If there is already a bunch of water and debris in the engine, I don't think you would do any more damage by turning it over. It's probably already pretty messed up inside. But do what you want to do. Disconnecting the throwout bearing is the easiest way to do it, but if you can't figure that out, turning the engine over is your only other choice.

im on my own (i wish i had someone to help) but ill try the method with something larger than a screwdriver. heres a pic of what im looking at (see how only part of the ring will depress? and the acces hole is too small to get a 2nd one in there)

arrrrg

ok i gave up trying to push that ring in and just spun the motor and removed those bolts.... i did hear a bit of a crunch on the first 1/4 rev so im convinced there is some sort of crap in there which may or may not require a rebuild now.

anyway, its separated finally but i was windering if anyone could ID the clutch and flywheel? i cant tell if its all stock or not.... ill post some pics
