How to remove brake calipers

Hi guys,

I want to remove my calipers because I want to sandblast/paint them. I am having trouble removing the hard brake lines. Looking in the FSM it says that there is a SST to use in the removal of said lines.

I am wondering if any of you can tell me how to remove the lines. I have used about 200ml's of loosenut and nothing is moving.

Any help is appreciated thanks!

If you're taking off the calipers, you should not need to remove the hard lines. Just disconnect the flexible lines at the caliper end.

Thats what I am trying to get off. The connection after the little S hardline connection directly from the caliper.

Are you using a box end wrench? If you are you should stop using it and buy some flare nut wrench. Hopefully you didnt strip the flare nut by now.

Actually I didn't strip it yet.

I saw the line starting to crimp so I tried relatively gently and then stopped when I saw the wrench didn't fit snuggly enough around the fitting.

I am going to look for a flare nut wrench. Thanks for the tips.

Thanks for the tips guys the lines came off real easy with the flare nut wrench. The thing that is dammed stupid is that I bought a kit one wrench is 10-11mm one 12-13mm and one 15-17mm wtf I have never used a 11, 13 or 15mm size damn crooks.

I was wondering on a similar topic. I don't want to buy SST # 49 0118 850C so what kind of Ball Joint Pullers do you guys use to remove well ball joints such as the steering knuckle to tire rod end?

Thanks again! Alex

P.S

More specifically I would be thinking of using something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEW-BALL-JOINT-TI...sid=p1638.m118

As it looks the closest to the SST.
