what would ui guys spend for a stock fd 1993 base model withj 68k miles?? from a dealer also??

 

Original motor? no more than $10k, unless it's in UNBELIEVABLY EXCEPTIONAL condition. *chances are* the motor doesn't have that much life left. I've seen some over 100k mi still running well, but those are the exception. When you look on ebay, 90% have new motors in that mileage range.

Mine had 61k mi, 1k on motor, turbos, clutch, and vacuum lines. It was in GREAT shape overall. I paid $13.5k.

If it's the original motor, and you overpay, you probably won't have the money to fix it WHEN the motor or turbo's pop.

It depends on what shape it's in. Considering I paid 20000 for mine from a dealer it was in excellent shape had a clean title (car fax) and had 36000 miles on it I would mabe pay 12000 max if it's in good shape clean title good compression. If all that checks mabe... 12000 but not more than that. 68000 is alot of miles on an fd... if thats the original motor.

 

Watch about when it comes to dealers and these cars. Ask anyone on this forum about dealers and you will get lots of horror stories. Dealers can be the worst things for these cars. The words Dealer and FD shouldn't be used in the same sentence ten years after the cars were last sold as new. BEWARE.

You have cash in hand, that's how you do it.

Have them do a compression test on the car and see if they will offer a warranty on the car. Without the compression test (or a warranty that covers engine replacement), don't mess with the car.

given that the car is in pristine cond.(good compression, vacuum) I wouldent give more than NADA retail for it anyways(probably around $13,000)
I sold Cyberben3 his car(which was in SUPER good cond) for $13,500 with new engine. I sold it for NADA retail.
the second one I sold to Rdahm for $13,000 with 86k on the clock(original motor, but pristine cond) BUT it had an extended warranty which he has worn out! (2 engines, 1 transmission in less than 4 months).
that kinda mileage is right on the cusp of having to do some major work on it. For that price i believe i would pass!

 

if i found a rx7, 1993, with 68000 miles, and it was on its second engine, and most things checked out, like engine compression, boost, and the tranny seemed good, and no overheating, and a clean title, i would pay a lot more than 13000 for it, thats just my opinion though, i think this car is unique, it really dont matter what the rx7 is 'booking for' with the nada, its what the market value is, supply and demand, supplies getting lower, and the demand greater, for a good, clean car, so the market value for a good five speed is higher than the book value, this is about the only car i have ever seen do this, in the last 10 years.

dealers are punks! is this car at a mazda, honda, etc. dealership? or at some no name place?

if its at a big dealership, like honda or something, its probably not trash, and they should show u a carfax report for free, just ask, and dont be afraid to low ball them, they make their money off used cars, a lot! theres no way of knowing how much money they have in that car, they could have got it at a sale, auction, or a low low trade in, believe me, they did not get ripped off, ask them about 3500 or 4000 under what they are asking, it wont hurt,

DO A SEARCH ON CAR NU (and Car - nu)!!!! THEY HAVE A HORRIBLE REPUTATION.

 

I was thinking of buying a car from these guys but have been hearing a lot of bad stories about them lately, they seem to be a little pricey too.

 

I bought my RX from Car Nu and had PFS first ask me where I got it then told me it was one of the strongest running FD's they had seen...

 

i work at a toyta dealership and i will vouch that the salesmen are BLOOD hungry.(im a parts guy). they buy cars for *** cheap then put the cheapest parts on them, fix what only needs to be fixed and sells it. they are shady in their ways of doing stuff. when it comes to used cars be very very picky. tell them you will take the car for 12-13K(cash in hand). with that much cash in hand they would be stupid not to sell it right there. i know some of the GM's would step in and say there is no way they are going cheaper. just tell him to sell it or stop wasting your time. they love people they can take advantage of. be PUSHY and get your way. make sure there is a warranty too.

I was a used car salesman

Let me tell you. All the horror stories you guys hear about used car lots.............is COMPLETLY true. The owner of the lot was a bitch enough to actually use this special oil that burns almost smoke free in cars that were about to die. Check engine lights were never anything important. The guy always wanted me to get customers into the building to let them sit inside and wait so that they can become impatient and buy anything.

Cars will always be marked up. Afterall, how in the world will a dealership survive if it can't make a profit. Trick is getting to as close to the profit margin as possible. Any decent dealer will have access to good warranty companie which will warrant practically anything on wheels.

If you are given several different warranty options, make sure you take the good one which will probably be more expensive. These tend to cover practically anything on the car. Try to ask for a copy of the contract so that you can compare what they cover.

 

Surprisingly, I forgot before, and it's only been briefly mentioned here, but have the compression checked. That's a GREAT indication of the motor's life. Go to a REPUTABLE Mazda dealer to have it done--these cars require a special tester for the right reading.

You can search on it, but 8's--great, 7's--not bad, 6's--it's wearing, 5's--it's about gone.

I wouldnt' spent 17 for a Stock FD with that many mileage on it...
There's more out there that are alot more low mileage and sells the same...
