That oil cooler keeps a lot of old oil in it.

Look in the driver's manual. It's in the back under CAPACITIES. On my R1, it's 3.9 quarts including the filter. I just pour in 4 quarts.

Hmm.. I should drain the oil coolers next time. I didn't know they hold that much old oil.

Anything more than 4 quarts is asking for trouble. If you've got any couplings that are loose, you'll see oil there if you overfill. I once overfilled (about 4.5 qts) and I had a bad coupler on the stock Y-pipe. The oil would leak out and start to burn on the pipe, which scared me since there was smoke coming from under the hood.

There is some evidence to believe that overfilling can be injurious to the motor in some way, but I honestly don't know the details or whether or not they're true.

I'd say 3.5 qts while it's up on stands, lower the car, wait a few mins, check the dipstick and add oil until it's just at the top of the hash marks.

Is there a way to get a bigger oil filter than the stock small one!?!? I mean, i can understand if the oil we filled it up wtih was only 3qt, but it's not. Can we use a bigger filter int he stock location?

And yes, the oil coolers hold a lot of oil, especially if you have an R1
