How Hard?
Ok i just bought a new clutch cause i have the engine out for a rebuild and the tranny out for the 5th gear synchro. SO i am puting in a new clutch. my tranny is still laying on the ground and the motor is not here yet. but anyways is there anything special tools i need to put my new clutch in. they say i need a clutch alignment tool but i dont think i need this cause i am going to put the tranny back in with the motor out side the car. ALso the piolit bearing tool, i thought this came with the kit. ANything that i am missing cause i already got the 2 1/8 flywheel nut of.
thanks Marc

OK, fine:
1. You will need to use a clutch alignment tool even if you put the trans back in outside the car. (Putting the engine back in with trans attached is a little bit of gymnastics.) If you don't you will spend a lot of time sweating and cussing getting the trans shaft in all the way.
2. You will need to buy the pilot bearing puller or borrow one. People have also packed the bearing hole full of wet tissue paper and driven it out by hammering and metal bar the same size as ID into the hole. I bought a puller from Mazdatrix because I believe in the right tools for the job.
3. Why did you remove the flywheel nut? It has nothing to do with replacing the clutch. If you think it does you a a bit lost. Are you replacing the flywheel?
I find the factory service manual quite enough for most anything on this car. If you don't I'm sorry.
Also, sorry if I came across as an *** but if you are stumped with something as simple as replacing a clutch I wonder if should be doing this yourself.
You're ******* welcome.

sorry yes i am replacing the flywheel to but the main reason i took it off was to bolt the engine to the engine stand. the point i was trying to make was that i got the flywheel off without the sst tool i think the book calls it. I am not really stumped but i want to be sure that i have evrything to do the job correctly cause i am sick haveing my car out of comission. Just im one of those poeple who like to check and double check everything to do it right. And thanks for your ******* help.

yes alignment tool its only like 3 bucks and although you probably can do it without it it is good insurance that you did the job right for 3 bucks. and a pilot bearing puller is almost always needed and don't waste your money on a cheap one from northerntool, you need the real mazda tool or else you can't get enough grip on the pilot bearing (guess how i know that one). it should be fairly easy if you have the engine and tranny pulled already, just make sure you get the collar pushed in all the way (like the shop manual says) and you should be good to go.
