how to fix a broken clutch switch

for those of you who have problems with your car stalling out when you are stopped in gear its probubally your clutch switch, so here is a cheap and easy fix that'll take no more then an 30 minuites.

first get under your dash and look at switch, if the button ist sticking out much then the spring inside has gone bad (it should stick out about 1/2"). so pull out the switch, bend the 4 metal tabs up holding the plastic connector piece in and pull out the gutts. then go to your desk/kitchen drawer or wherever you keep pens and get a click type pen (i used a skillcraft) take it apart and steal the spring (i'm not sure if all pens are the same so you might need to take apart a few to get the right size spring), then re-assemble with the new spring re-install and go for a drive!
thanks, kyle.

Its still not bad to have another thread with pictures, considering how things get swallowed by the forum sometimes.

Good Job Adam_C for the originally posted idea, and good job to the OP for figuring it out too.

Nothing wrong with redundancy, especially considering the common need for this fix.

I've noticed that i'll have to push the clutch a few times in order to get it to turn over. does the clutch switch fail gradually like this? or is it something else.

sounds like the spring broke and it cant push as hard as it used to, that or something sticky got in there so it cant come out like it should.

Could be. But I think more frequently cleaning grounds, cleaning connections at the starter and battery terminals and making sure the battery is putting out full voltage helps more. It didn't take much on my car.
