yeah, you can unplug it. open the hatch, pull up the plastic cover where the jack is, take the jack out, use a flashlight and you'll see the actual antenna coax running back to it. Along the casing of the antenna, you'll see a wiring harness - there are like 6 wires going into it. Thats it! push the tab and disconnect the harness.
i just did it to mine this past weekend. damn gear teeth are probably shot, and got tired of hearing the motor whine.

Thats exactly what I'm gonna do later this summer when I get my flares and a repaint.

Theres was actully a thread I on this a while ago. There is a built in internal antenna for the stock radio, thats why coming from the stock radio there are 2 antenna plugs. For aftermarket Head units you just us one of them and leave the other disconnected, the disconnected one is the internal antenna. If you can find a plug to connect the internal antenna to the after makret head unit then you can get rid of the external antenna all together. You probably won't get as good reception, but if your like me you rarely listen to the radio anyway.

I kinda rambled. If you need some clarifcation let me know.

I have an AWIA head unit for now and it does the same thing. I think only high end units know weither the antenna should be up or not. I was thinking about running a toggle switch on the antenna wire, that way I can switch it to go up.

i, too, have an AIWA (MP3/CD) player. it keeps the antenna up regardless of what's playing (radio or cd). your best bet is to do like 7-sins suggested. just put a toggle switch in-line with the antenna wire. it should be the blue wire (i think) from the head unit. if you installed the unit yourself, then you'll know which wire it is. check your AIWA install instructions -- it'll tell you which wire it is. another alternative would be (Zoomspeed's suggestion above) to disconnect the antenna wire (this would keep the antenna permanently down), then just switch the antenna plug on the head unit to the other plug in the car that goes to the internal antenna in your back windshield. the reception probably wouldn't be as good, but you could get rid of the stock antenna & plug the hole with a little body work. good luck.

i may try somethin else for now...

first i will try that wire i will look in the aiwa book and mess with the wires and try to disable it or toggle it......if not i will try doing a CD player swap with my friend to see if getting a higher end player fix that issue....

I will get back with you all and TTteddy i also will let you know what i did if i find solution....

i like this deck because its not too flashy and gets job done looks cool with the rest of my inerior....
