I'm assuming manual? Just drain and refill:

yup.. just follow the manual. I would highly recommend opening the fill plug first. If you open the drain plugs (there's 2), and can't get the fill plug open, you're kind of screwed. It's not that tough. Depending on what you're doing with the car, I would be careful what fluid you use. I don't want to turn this into a fluid debate either, but gear oil choice is important.

I'm using Amsoil. I won't say it's the best because there's other good options, but I would stay away from Royal Purple gear oil. It's apparantly pretty corrosive to yellow metals (aka synchros). Until i crack my transmission open for service, i won't know for sure, but I believe that's what has contributed considerably to my transmission issues. I have the typical 5th gear syncro problem, but at the last track day, I started losing clean shifts into 3rd as well. Now i really have to be gentle with it.

Here's a link to a white paper comparing various gear lubes. Done by amsoil, but seems pretty much on the up and up.

Personally I would replace the gear oil after the transmission is reinstalled and the car is level.

Then download a copy of the Factory Service Manual from the stickys. Changing out transmission gear oil won't be any different one from the other.

Anybody know what size socket will fit on the main drain plug? It's def bigger than 23 mm.

EDIT: NM, I was getting lazy so just posted up... looks like it's 24 mm.
