hot wire after car is turned off?

Im guessing their is a wire that is hot only after the car is turned off. Seems that may be how the factory alarm turns on. Can I splice into one of the wires going into the the alarm LED? Does anyone know which one? Is there another/better way of doing this?

I got a flashing red light that I want to turn on when the car is off. Seems almost like an oxy-moron.

thanks.

Just wire a small normally CLOSED relay to an ign key switched wire - Ign OFF the relay closes and turns led on, turn ign ON the relay will open and turn led OFF

Tapping into any of the stock Alarm wiring may cause problems w/ the alarm not arming or giving false alarms.

not to chang topics but how do you like your leather seats.com seat covers? I need to redo my drivers seat. Do they match the stock patern exactly? I only want to do the drivers side but want them to match. also how hard were they to install?

You can tap into just about any wire that is hot when the engine is off. Sounds like you won't be using much current. Just be aware that it will run your battery a little.

This topic is over, no problem. I installed these on 7/20/2002 so its been a year. They look as good as the day I installed and they have about 35K miles on them now. I think I detailed the installation, but I spent 6 hours in the first seat, then about 2-3 on the 2nd seat over 2 days. It would have costed about 500 for the labor, so I saved money. You get the choice of the pattern you see in my pics, or you can get the one with the pin holes. For $100 more you can get the fake suede inserts. I chose not to because the black inserts were more of a grey and I wanted a solid interior. You can get two tone, etc.

Adam, I understand that. But I dont know what wire is hot when the engine is off. I did not want it to blink while Im driving, that would be too weird.

OK, I understand. I guess you don't want to have an on/off switch somewhere??
