Two words: spark plugs.

Try that first and then........hmmmmm.. .. all kinds of interesting things to start chasing.

My car does this sometimes (quite a bit now, actually). Could be your plugs. Or, in my case, I think I have low compression and its about time for a rebuild.

Oh yeah, I found a procedure that works great to start my car. If it doesn't fire right up, but only fires and tries to start, floor the gas pedal while cranking it. Mine starts right up when I do this.

paw 140, if you floor it while cranking it won't get any gas,( no signal sent to the inj.) So it might be starting to flood the first time you try starting it.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking too. I just have to get off my lazy *** and do a compression test and eliminate that before I go searching for the gremlins that would be making my engine flood. On a positive note, it has ALWAYS started.

Also Check the BATTERY voltage while cranking - if it drops below 11v then you need a new battery. at that voltage you won't get enough spark to start the car even if it is turning over.

Excellent advice.

How many miles on the ENGINE and what is the history, mods, etc. Including everything you know about it before you owned it, if you are not the original owner.

The next step is a compression test with a MAZDA BRAND - I REPEAT - MAZDA BRAND compression tester.

If you have high mileage on an engine that has been beat on you probably need a rebuild. Sorry. That's just the way it is......

I'm sure - for sure, you know?

Life is good when you live in Orlando: THE ONLY PLACE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD WHERE I HAVE EVER FELT SCARED TO GO OUT AT NIGHT! ... and that includes most third world countries.

New Orleans runs a close second. Sorry - that's "Nooh Awhleens".

Come on Ron. You're scared of New Orleans? It's the greatest place on earth! And it's pronounced 'nah lins'.

Or something like that

Next step, IMO, would be a compression test.
