Hood Struts for CF hoods?

OK everyone, I've "searched" and read nearly every Gen 3 thread on this topic. I know that Chuck at Rotary Extreme (RE) offered probably the best solution at one time, but my question is this:

"Is anyone aware of a current solution on the market that works without valving so stiff that it bows CF hoods when closing?"

I've personally witnessed how stiff the NRGs are, and the Teins are not much better. Are there any "Ebay" solutions that have softer valving, but still do a good job of holding up the hood? What has your experience been? Is anyone aware of a "stock OEM" strut, such as a short one from Honda that might work? Have you found a strut at Checker or Autozone that might work?

Please share your experience!

Thx!

NRG makes struts for CF\FG hoods and sets for OEM hoods. I have a set but haven't got around to installing it and won't for a while. I got mine through FDNewbie Imports.

Thanks for the responses guys. I just Googled "NRG Struts Carbon Fiber Hoods" and found a link to a Scion website that claims you can special order them from NRG at half-pressure specifically for carbon fiber hoods. I've got a dealer checking into this and will get back to everyone with an answer tomorrow.

That would def be cool... I *should* be having a CF hood shipped out my way soon... would be cool to have struts for it, instead of using the stock brace in a make-shift manner..

RE Hood Dampers

I have the dampers I purchased from them a couple years ago, and no bowing visible on my VIS CF hood.

Kai and Riz..... agreed and thanks for the replies. However, they are no longer for sale. If I can't get half-strength NRGs, I may just go to Checker and find some of similar length and make my own kit. We'll see.

Riz... did you get my PM asking if your extra set of REs was still for sale? I never got a reply, so I assume that you've sold them??

Pretty stupid comment considering the person you're addressing that to has spent a substantial amount on his FD. Probably moreso than yourself...just an FYI.

PM'd you back! Sorry for the late reply. Yes, unfortunately I sold them awhile back. You should try the F/S section. You might just get lucky...

Thumbs up Rotary Extreme

OP,

Rotary Extreme is back in business (different owner but same products) and you can get the dampers...

http://www.rotaryextreme.com/fdindex.html

I have talked to the owner about these and he stated that he places orders once he receives an order and it takes about three weeks for the product to get to you.

Hey guys, Yes I still sell everything that Chuck made. Sorry I am on a made per oder set-up, but that's the only way to bring the business back at this time.

When payment is made for anything, I have to get the cnc guy to make the custom pieces and order any other parts. That takes time to get the kits together. Then there is shipping.

I don't carry any stock. Economy does not support me to also.

IIRC, back then Chuck specified two different hood shocks. A higher compression rated shock for the heavier stock hood and a lower compression for the fiberglass or carbon hoods. The mounting hardware was the same. The shocks themselves are off the shelf parts from a manufacturer that makes those products.

Search for his original posts on the subject.

i feel like the force in the dampers might be too strong, since the weight difference between a Cf hood and a Regular OEM hood differs, so the damping force should be different as well. I know the CNC brackets helps reduce that type of damage, but NRG makes specific half force dampers specially for aftermarket CF hoods, i know that Ramy had started a GB on that subject but hes dissapeared for god knows how long. So im contemplating on what to do...any other options?
