HKS Blow Off Valve Tuning

I just installed a HKS SSQV in my FD. My car is an auto and everything is installed correctly. This is the bov with the tunable spring. I had an HKS bov on my previous 3000gt vr4 and this one sounds nothing like it, I can bearly hear it. My question is how do I properly adjust this. Im running stock turbos and stock boost.

Thanks Kevin

I also hooked up the vacuum line that went to the stock bov to the HKS one.

barely hear it....hmmm i have a HKS SSBOV. did you plug it into the charge relief valve or air bypass valve port? the front one is the BOV spot, the rear one does something different for spooling up the second turbo.

its pretty loud on stock levels. there is a rear screw on it, but out of the box, it works well.

especially loud if it has the whistle front end on it. its that plastic 3 spoke piece.

mine was/is loud! if you take the front whistle off, not so much. But stock boost etc, it was sexy. if you look at my engine bay, it was the first thing done to my car. lol

I hate posting this pic, but the past is past

you can barely see it, but shes there.

kev, do you have the plastic whistle on the front? that three pronged thing? i know this isnt exactly your model, but close enough.

retarded looking video, but it shows the different sounds an HKS can make.

can you give its some throttle while in the engine bay and hear that baby?

flutter sound is similar but not the same to the OPs problem. that would be compressor surge, not enough air leaving the bov and exiting the turbo.

I get that flutter sound sometimes. Is there a way to get rid of it?

for one you need to have boost pressure that the bov has to release. it shouldnt be as loud just reving it up you should be able to hear it. maybe it could be the location or an actual problem with the unit... put it on a dyno and test it with the hood open i guess is 1 option.. the newer hks ssq dont use the springs unless its the old one or a knock off

as for that flutter that is bad, thats the extra pressure not being released and is not good for the car.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but regarding flutter, get as much air out asap. That said, look up arghx thread on "8 months blah blahblah no blow off valve something something" i don't remember the exact title but fascinating discussion on compressor surge. Both figurative and practical.

Off tangent. Sorry kev. :-)
