Hepa filter mod ?

I was thinking it would be nice to have a HEPA type filter on the vent air (like in the c320 benz). From being so low, sometimes I'm inhaling exhaust fumes in my fd at stoplights. Anyone know if it can be added ?

You mean an in-cabin air filter? I know the relatively new Maximas (for the past couple of years) have had them.

Now, if you're talking about modifying an ion (air purifier) filter for "in-car" use...all of the ones that are here in my office building make hissing type noises. Not enough to annoy I guess (as I don't sit directly near one). I haven't seen one small enough for "in-car" use. Then again, all of the ones on the market, are currently geared towards use in a small room or office. So,...you could make a smaller one.

Do it and post back w/ your results.

hahaha - I think the rattles would drown out any hissing. Or just tell people it's your turbo prespooling.

But seriously, how much room is in the ventilation ducts to put a filter? I'm going to go look at the parts diagrams.

I'm looking at the diagrams. Hard to tell where the air comes in. Probably have to remove the dash to see.

Update: pulled off the glove box door. A/C unit is behind it. Got the bottom of the A/C unit loose. Nice rectangular opening on the right (where the blower is) to put the filter in. Only problem is I can't seem to get the bottom off the A/C unit. I've removed 3 screws and 2 clips, the bolt underneath. Still doesn't want to come off.

Update: tried a small hepa filter from a vacuum cleaner just past the blower. Way too restrictive. I'm going to pull the dash and try a 5 micron home a/c filter.

just hook up a dc===>ac converter and then buy one of those sharper image ion filters and plug it in, nothing will keep out exhaust fumes though...

Get one of those ION filters that plug into the cigerret lighter plug. I think they have them at the Sharper Image. They work really good. Get the powerful one and it should take care of the whole car.

Subaru has been doing in-cabin filtration for years...it's an option, but honestly, why bother? Yeah, you get a warm fuzzy by *thinking* you're getting nice clean air, but the reality is that when you're driving, you're getting other ambient air in your car, because it's not airtight, despite how well the car might seal.

If you have bad enough allergies, then good luck trying to get this to work. As for me, I'll roll the windows down
