Help w/ UIM butterflies

Question. Does anybody have any tips for getting these little screws out? I'm gonna end up stripping them out, I just know it.

you cant unscrew them they are smashed on the other side the best way to remove them is to drill them out. and make sure there is no shavings in the uim.

Not all of them are mushroomed out on the other side. Mine screwed out just fine.

I didn't have any luck with a phillips head screwdriver though... after 15 years those screws were no stronger than play-dough. lol I had to slot the screw heads with a dremel cutoff wheel and then use a larger flathead to screw them out. Works like a charm.

BTW, I also had to use this technique with the screws on the stock fuel rails.

Thanks for all the help, but I talked to Rich (GoodfellasFD3S) and he said just use the double throttle block-off plate.

The block-off plate is just to cover the hole in the UIM after you remove the butterflies. Just drill the screws out with the UIM off the car. Make sure to clean it out well so you don't get metal shaving in the engine.

I just bought new ones yesterday for mine(hex heads now )....I didn't even start to put pressure on it with the screw driver and I spun the center out in just a 1/4 turn.

the 93 base model butterflys are easy to remove cause the backs are not mushromed. if you have anything after that...like was said..you will need to drill strait through them and rip the butterflys out. if you do it this way, take the manifold out. you could seriously damage the motor if you get anything down into the intake track.

here is a how-to:
