did you try replacing your fuel filter? and having all the fuel lines flushed out. i had a problem with my car, and had many of the same symptoms. had some bad gas.

Thats next on the to do list if spark plugs dont work. I may hook up a fuel pressure gage and see if I'm getting any to the engine.

Finally got a compression test done last night. My front rotor spikes to 90 psi on all three faces and the rear goes to 100 psi on all three faces. What do you guys think? Is it blown? Both readings were consistant and both rotors are fairly close to eachother. There was not any noticeable difference between any of the faces of the rotors either.
I'm going to be putting the car back together this morning and see if it feels better with new plugs and wires. If not, I'm going to be checking the fuel system this week and replacing the fuel filter whenever I can get a replacement.

Can anybody think of ANYTHING else it could be? My MAP sensor is all hooked up right, but could it have just failed all the sudden? How can I test it if so? I cant really think of anything else to look for. If either of these dont work then we are pretty much going to tear the whole engine down and start inspecting everything. Any ideas on something else that I could check?

From the sound of your compression numbers...I don't think the engine is blown.

Neither do I. I just installed the new spark plugs and wires and it started! Vacuum is still fluctuating but not nearly as much and idle is smoother but still rough and I still have a ton of black smoke coming out. I think tightening the intake hose helped out along with the new unfouled plugs, but something is still amiss. What do you guys think? I believe I still have a vacuum leak somewhere. Also, whenever I move the throttle plates, I hear a vacuum sound or air moving or something like that. Is that normal?
Next on my checklist of stuff to do is check fuel system (replace fuel filter and check fuel pressures), then I'm going to do a teardown, check all the hoses in depth and do a vacuum hose simplification.
Anybody have any more ideas? So far almost everything that somebody has said has led me to something thats jacked up about my car, so I'd appreciate any more input. Thanks,
Ben
