Unhappy Help Please, boost problem

Ok guys...Ill try to explain this as best as possible. I noticed today that I was making a lot less boost than i was suppose to. While im driving u can hear a sort os noise like air is being released as soon as the turbos start to spool. Basically u can hear it when the first turbo spools then it stops for a second then as soon as the second turbo spools it starts up again. I know its a boost leak and that its comming from the passenger side of the car. I was wondering if u guys have any idea of where to start looking. Oh by the way I tried popping the hood and revving the motor to see if I can hear the noise but I dont if that matters.

These are my mods

*Pettit Racing 1.3L 13B-REW street ported engine w/3mm apex seals.

*99' J-spec ceramic coat, ported and blueprinted twin turbos.

*NGK leading and trailing platnium plugs.

*10mm Magnacore spark plug wires.

*Upgraded Goodyear boost and vacuum hoses.

*Pettit Racing cold air intake.

*Pettit Racing 3" stainless steel downpipe.

*Pettit Racing aluminum coolant AST.

*ACT extreme clutch.

*Pettit Racing 8.5lbs flywheel.

*Pettit Racing 60/40 short shifter.

*HKS Super SEQ BOV kit.

*Koyo radiator.

*RX7 Trix battery relocation kit.

*Blit Dual Turbo Timer w/harness

The rebuilt motor has about 50,000 miles on it.

Any help in locating it would be great thanks.

The only real places that boost can leak from is the piping from the turbo to the uim. Basically start at the turbo & check all your piping and coupler down to the ic, then check all the piping after the intercooler and to the elbow.

Oh, and check the line to the bov and the bov itself. If malfunctioning, it can leak the air

Check the coupling for the crossover tube that leads from the turbo outlet to the IC first. That's the usual place for leakage to occur first.

Then check all the rest of your IC couplings leading to the TB.

ok I found the boost leak it was a coupler comming off of the turbo going into IC. Is it possible to get these at the local auto parts store or is this something that will require a two day wait or more over the internet?

Order it over the net and tape it up with duct tape for now.

The couplers are a fairly large size internally, and depending on the one that is leaking, may need to have bends in them. It's doubtful you'll find them at your local auto parts store. You can find them at most FD aftermarket places, or try searching the parts for sale section of the forum.

Uh, duct tape won't hold any boost; it'll just leak right through the seams. It's best not to drive the car until you replace the couplers.

If you need to drive the car, but don't intend to drive it hard, it should be okay with duct tape until you can get the new couplings...

I thought about that, but I figured with the level of modifications the engine has, that would be difficult to do for too long...

You can fix anything with duct tape, zip ties, and bondo. If you have a honda, that is.

I would use duct tape, but order couplings asap.

I just noticed you're on twin turbos. Perhaps you should get the efini y-pipe. It would eliminate this known boost problem area. Also, it should give you slightly better boost.

Thanks guys.....I got a temporary fix from auto-zone. Its a rubber coupler and it came with clamps. Ill use that until the new efini y-pipe kit comes in. Boost is back where it should be for now.

I just blew my spare coupler and I was wondering if I can drive around with a hole in the coupler until the new one comes in, or would it be bad for the motor?

If it's your only car, just tape it up and don't boost. If it's not your only car, just let the thing sit. Aren't there any automotive performance shops or mechanics in your area -- they should have couplers or hose in stock.

most close early today. And I got off of work late...lucky me. Im going to go to pepboys or auto zone now and see if they have a slightly stronger coupler just so that I can use it over the weekend. Or until my y-pipekit comes in. Ill just have to be more carefull this time. Thanks for the suggestion Rynberg.

I've heard juicy fruit work well if you chew it up and then wad it in there. But this is my first tt car, so I could be wrong about that.

If that's a joke, its not funny. And if it isn't a joke, it's soo not funny...

Just for ***** n giggles, you can try gluing the coupler back together, but it probably won't last long. I'd start with superglue. Duct tape can work if it's on the inside, but if it peels up (the couplers usually have motor oil absorbed into the inner surface) the tape would jam in the intercooler, ruining it. Duct tape on the outside will not last long in any case.
