Help! Coolant question.

I have a question about coolant level. The coolant in my overflow tank always indicates right below F. and when i check my filler neck in the morning when it's really cold, I see no coolant. but when i start my car, the level rises and holds at the top with tiny bubbles. Plus i get white smoke in the morning. Am i burning coolant?

If the level is dropping when the car cools off this is a good thing and means you don't have any air leaks between your ast and the overflow resivoir. I'm not sure why you would see air bubbles in the recovery tank (overflow resivoir) but as long as your temp is normal and the coolant is moving back and fourth (not having to add any coolant) then I'm not seeing an issue.

When the engine warms up it will expand. As long as you're not losing coolant or if it's not gushing out of the overflow tank you should be fine.

Also, when the car warms up the AST will push out coolant into the overflow when it hits the pressure limit on the AST cap. So, you'll have more coolant in the overflow once it's fully warmed up.

Damn it's been a long time since i've posted something here...

The level in the filler neck should not be gone when it's cold. Sounds like you have a coolant seal failure.

How long does the smoke last when you start it up? How thick is it?

I checked my filler again this morning and it was an inch below the top. Yesterday there wasnt any. The smoke lasts about 5 minutes and the smoke isn't very thick.

It sounds like you most likely have a coolant seal going. Go to shop like Goodyear or some place like that and have them pressure test your cooling system. The test will show at least that your system is or isn't holding pressure.
