help!! check valves
today i discovered that a couple of the check valves on my car are shot. on one of them the inlet is broken off inside the vucuum line, another doesnt flow at all in the direction is supposed to so i would like to replace them all. does anyone know if this could be causing a rough idle with a low vacuum reading on my autometer boost gauge. also does anyone know where i could get some oem ones or any that would work. a while ago i saw a member that was selling some check valves for what seemed to be a resonable price compared to mazda price. any help would be great.

Any problems with the vacuum system (broken check valves, vacuum lines popped off) can cause problems. It's always worth fixing a known problem first when you're troubleshooting.
BTW, I'm the guy that sells the check valves - the link above is to my site. I've got plenty in stock and ready to ship out quick.

That could cause a problem because you'll have a vacuum or boost leak. Also make sure the hose attached to the MAP sensor it still attached. It's the black sensor attached to the firewall, a little to the right of the throttle body. Got an electrical connector on it, and a vac line going to the bottom of it.

How many Check valves are there?
I am just repiping my Rats nest at the moment and have noticed there are 5 or 6 one way valves, some are Green and white and the others are Black.
Do i need to renew them all? If not which ones do i need to change?

The black ones are solenoids. Don't replace them unless you have to. If the tips break, you can jb weld them into place and still use them. Magnum steel works well, too.

pepboys sells check valves that are like $5.00 a pop and should hold you over till you can get some viton. the vitons work really well and are REALLY REALLY responsive! it's worth the investment. just make sure you get them in right the first time.

There's a total of 4 plastic check valves in the rat's nest - they will be green/white or green/black. The Viton valves replace all 4 of those. There is also an aluminum check valve for the gas tank vapor return from the charcoal canister - this is a hardy valve designed for that purpose, and it's usually fine. If it's sticking, it just needs some carb cleaner blown through it.
The black plastic deal on the vacuum line to the MAP sensor is a filter, NOT a check valve. The filter keeps junk out of the sensor.
I'm not sure, but automatic cars may have another check valve - I've barely touched any auto cars, and have yet to hear from anyone who bought my check valves and came up short.
BTW, I've had the original engineering samples from the factory on my car now for about 30,000 miles - not a single problem, and they're as good as new.
This is one of the few things you can get for the FD that's under $20, works better than the OEM part, will last a long time, and fixes many common problems. It's good stuff .
Thanks,
Dale

Tearing up my rats nest as well so I ordered these this morning, I broke 2 of the solenoid tips so I'm just getting new ones but if JB Weld holds alright I guess I could try that.

Yeah, I list them on Ebay as well - bunch of people don't hit the forum up but look for stuff on Ebay. I typically have one set going at any given time.
