The wrap isnt hugely expensive, make sure you soak it before you wrap though or your skin will irritate for days. How much youll need depends on how well your going to wrap it and youll need to take the DP off the car really to do a good job.

I have also found if you paint it with that 600F spray paint that it will dry and keep alot of the water out of it and hold the heat in even better.

A roll of DEI is about $40 IIRC. A can of the high temp spray is ~ $6 more. Obviously you could do a nicer job with the DP off, but it's not necessary, still alot of benefit. No difference in engine temp, but underhood temps dropped significantly and the car was a little quieter.

I'd recommend wearing nitrile gloves while you're wrapping the dp, as well as a long-sleeved shirt. Definitely soak it liberally in water, makes the wrap easier to work with.

Dang i wish i knew about the soaking before i wrapped mine. I wore some gloves similar to the mechanix gloves and my hands still itched for a couple days. I would listen to goodfella and try the soaking, anything can help that stuff is nasty.

so soaking you get a bucket or something filled with water and throw it in there. let it sit for a min and then wrap it? do they sell this DEI at the auto parts store?

It makes it easier to stretch it and wrap it around the downpipe at the slanted angle you need to. If it's not wet enough, it won't lay flat and will start to come up along the edges as you wrap it around the pipe.

when you wrap it, it stretches better, plus when is dries, it shrinks a little more and holds snug to the DP

Go to Calico Coatings. That is if you can get your DP off the car. They do coating for Nascar and they are very inexpensive. I believe with shipping it was around 60 bucks. The blackcool coating is the best. They coat it inside and out. You can run your hand under the car and touch the DP and it is not even warm.

Yes and yes. I know ADVANCE AUTO carries it, so they all probably do. They also carry the paint and the small stainless ties. FWIW, the ties might be nice at the manifold end where it's a little tighter, but I've used some good stainless worm-gear clamps I had laying around instead of the ties without issues.
In addition to the gloves, where safety glasses and something with long-sleeves like an old sweat shirt. The wrap is essentially spun glass, not unlike house insulation. Keeping off your arms and out of your eyes is good too.

go to dynamic turbo in broward, they sell it and it is fairly cheap. you can also buy the t-clamps that will assist in holding it on.

Heat coatings maybe the preferred for a number of reasons and when I next remove my DP I'm going to be looking into them seriously.
That said, like the author you linked to, I''m also talking from experience. Header wrap SIGNIFICANTLY reduces UNDERHOOD temps, it made my car a little quieter and I didn't have to R & R the DP for it. Additionally, my DP is mild steel, and the wrap has been on there for about 25k with no issues. The DP is still in good shape, no gasket issues. It was inexpensive and effective for my purposes.
That author apparently sells coatings and hasn't dealt with the significantly higher exhaust temps of a rotary engine.
