Unhappy Has something blown?

Drove my 1993 rx7 hard down a stretch of road. Have driven it harder before, however this time wen i was slowing down i put it into neutral and the revs dropped to 500rpm. it usually idles at 1200rpm. because of this it is struggling not to stall. It is also sluggish in the low revs. I dont have a clue what the problem could be. Its had a rebuild 10000 miles ago so isn't a proble with the rotor tips. Can any body give me any advise?

1. check to make sure map (boost) sensor hose is still connected
2. you can blow an apex seal at any time if you get detonation - you may have to do a compression check to know for sure

ok, just started her up then, now it seems to idle like it should, however oil pressure seems to be high. still think i should check the boost hose and get a compression test?
cheers

If it idles OK, then it may not be a blown apex seal. Disconnected boost sensor hose will cause really poor and weak running. The boost sensor is the little black rectangular box on the firewall next to the brake booster unit - it says boost sensor on top. The hose is on its bottom.

High oil pressure (up to 120 psi) when cold is normal.

What does the gauge say for oil pressure? Are you going by the one in the stock cluster, or is it a aftermarket gauge?

Dipstick is under the intake elbow on the left (drivers) side of the engine in front and to the left of the oil filter. Too much oil WILL NOT RAISE YOUR OIL PRESSURE. It can cause other problems, but high oil pressure is not one of them. as long as the oil pump intake is submerged in oil, the oil level makes VERY little difference in what oil pressure you will see.

No or low oil pressure can be a sign of a bad or dirty oil-pressure sender. They can sometimes be fixed by cleaning the contacts, or the inside of the sender, but they often have to be replaced to cure flaky oil pressure readings. The sender is below the oil filter on the side of the engine.

The car will run just fine with a faulty or bad oil pressure sending unit.

What problem? You said it was running fine now

As a general rule, don't trust the stock oil pressure gauge. It's not known for being accurate.

na its not running at all. starter motor is turning over but engine doesn't kick in. the needle on the oil pressure guage doesn't even move.

The stock oil pressure gauge works great, provided you have a good sending unit.

Your non-starting issues are in no way related to oil pressure.

At this point, I'd recommend getting it flatbedded to the nearest competent rotary shop. Where are you located?
