Grinding Gears and Horrible Bucking Problems

Since I can't figure out what's cauing my bucking issues I figure I'll try here. Around 1800RPM's my car starts to shake/rock back and forth/buck really badly as if the the car is about to blow but as soon as I give it gas everything is fine. The car still accelerates and boosts very nicely. It seems like there is just a deadspot at that RPM. Dunno what could cause it besides the fact that I'm also having transmission problems.

Whenever I shift into 2nd or 3rd gear and even 4th it grinds pretty bad almost to the point of not being able to put it in gear without forcing it in. I also pretty much can never shift into 1st unless I'm at a dead stop. This I figure has got to be synchros going out. Also the clutch engages pretty badly now which has been an on going thing so I think it's just worn out now.

About the 1800RPM issue...I have replaced my old turbos with lower mileage ones, installed a downpipe, installed a high flow cat and changed out my IACV cause that was shot after I shocked my car from touching the throttle cable to the alternator. Which I think might have cause more issues I just haven't found yet.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also I have a Power FC and my car will stick at around 2k to 3k RPM until the engine warms up. With the old ECU tapping the gas or putting it in gear would get rid of the AWS but now the RPM's only steady out as the car warms up. Which once everything is fully warmed up the idle is great. Also with the old ECU i had the 1800RPM problem except it just felt like a serious loss of power and the engine sound was completely different but with the Power FC it does the violent rocking.

The fact that you have trouble shifting into first and that you're grinding into every gear would make me think that the clutch is not engaging/disengaging properly. Check to see if your clutch line has ruptured or is leaking. Could be the fork.

If you had a wideband, I believe it would read very lean in that RPM range

For the bucking, may have to ground more points. Do you notice it only occurs when it's cold out or the car is not fully warmed up? I believe this is the 3K hesitation you're experiencing but for you it's occuring at a lower RPM. From what I've read in past, grounding more points can help alleviate/prevent bucking...the Power FC can be fiddled for it too I think.

For the grinding, not sure for your situation since you say you're almost forcin' it (!). But it's pretty common that FDs will eventually grind but usually going to 5th gear.

good suggestion with the clutch, broken... as far as the bucking have you inspected your drivetrain mounts? check the trans fluid?

Thank you for all the suggestions everyone. Now once I can get a day off of work I will address all these suggestions and see what happens. I've also been told that the fuel filter has caused cars to buck really badly which I will be chaning come next week since well I'm almost at 60k so I'm am due and who knows if the previous owner has ever changed it before. Now to go search for good trans fluid. Also when I say forcing it I'm very serious the only times I've ever been able to shift smoothly is if I shifted at a higher RPM but even now that doesn't work so yeah. Lots of work ahead of me. *pulls out the tool set*

If it's simply your synchros, then your shifting problems will be solved by double-clutching. (For example, from first, shift to neutral, clutch out, clutch in, shift to 2nd). This can be done with good rhythm after a little practice.

I'll bet it's not your synchros - although they may now be damaged by the grinding - I'll put my money on something in the bellhousing. Bent fork is where I would first look.

Improved FD: Nope never have before but I've heard the first time is a real treat haha.

spekdah: Think I'm gonna have to take that idea pretty soon. Seeing as how I just got my car out of the shop for some other problems haha.

dgeesaman: I shall try this today after I get back from work and see what happens but like you said it's probably something worse.
