Going back to pop-ups???

Wondering if anybody has gone from RE Amemiya or Rotary Extreme Sleek lights that they had to cut the frame and put the stock pop- ups back on, is this possible to do, if so how did you do it...

Pondering the thought of taking the sleeks off...

Kai

Pop-ups disrupt the cars lines and often look like tumors on the front of the car.
As far is going back to stock you might just want to from a piece of metal similar to stock and weld it in, or save the stock metal . . .

Kai,

I can relate about wanting to go back to the pop ups... The FD is hotness either way so it's a tough call

Just as staticguitar313 suggested you can always weld a bar in place if you don't have your original pieces. After I cut out my frame for my lights I saved the pieces "just in case", I also had my covers painted to match my new paint job again "just in case"...

+1/2 ha ha I have a love hate relationship with the pop ups. Love them when they are down hate them when they are up and I mean HATE. Nevermind the lighting... As far as looks are concerned the knightsport kit is A+ in my book. Haven't heard anything about the lighting though.

Get the knightsport pop up upgrade. They don't disrupt the line and the go wit hthe car really well. Just look at Gordin's car.

I meant to say the sleek lights look like tumors, like the EVO-R type ones that have a done shape to them. I was tired when I posted that and didn't edit. Stock pop-ups belong on the car, every sleek light conversion makes some sort of sacrifice. Not a fan of sacrifices.

Well put sir

Kai,
I'm not really sure what has to be modified when installing the sleek lights so I can't really answer that. But as long as you didn't chop off any of the mounting points I would think you're good to go.

Kai,

with the bodykit you have, i would strongly suggest to stay with the sleek lights

I agree... they work well with your overall look. However, I also agree that the pop-ups have character and are part of what defines the oem design. In this case, though, Kai's car is such a (modern) radical departure from the original that I feel the exposed headlights look more cohesive.

For me, it's like adding a GTR style wing or a wild CF hood with an otherwise stock body style. Without other aero they look out of place, but with more tasteful racy-bits they would look right at home on many different cars.

Well I may have to keep it as I would need to get the frame back to its original state which would be too much work...+ like some of you said that the stock pop ups may look out of place due the the body kit...

Kai,

What body kit are you going with?? Personally, I'm a fan of sleeks.. but I do like how your car is set up.. Maybe I should go with sleeks on my black Fd....

regarding going back.. I did an RE headlight kit for someone 4-5 years ago.. I don't quite remember but all i remember was, 'he better not decide to go back to stock pop ups"..

I'm no longer changing anything on the car Phil, I am very satisfied the way it is now, I was just thinking of the stock pop ups if it was doable to go back, much of my time is now spent on the new DD the STI, so much fun to drive...LOL..

Don't worry I am still a Rotorhead by heart...

Kai,
I'm thinking about going back to pop ups as well

I plan on putting 6K xenons on my car, if that helps with driving at night . If not i'll be def hitting up our local vendor to purchase the KS kit.

I think you can go back, worse case, take some angle iron from home depot and anchor into place. You could even weld a plate on.

yes, I had to cut about 2" to fit my old rotary run racing lights, I went back to stock no problem. I LOVE the sleek look of the pop-ups when they are down, KS light kit should take care of them when they are up. Never looked back.

I may just do something different to make it look like it has pop ups but it's actually sleeks...
