I just ordered the PE-TR greddy to see how it compares. Will let you all know. Greddy was running a special with free shipping and I wanted something slightly more aggressive than the Racingbeat exhaust.

A person posted a couple videos on one of the rx7 Facebook groups. The sound was crisp and clean but was louder than expected. I’d like to hear your opinion of it too.

I recently installed the GReddy PE-TR exhaust. I'm running an HKS downpipe and the Bonez high flow cat as well. I replaced a Racing Beat dual tip with the PE-TR.

Like coxxoc mentioned, the sound is quite crisp and the tone at idle was nice and deep. After getting to drive it around the last few days, I feel like the sound of the GReddy is more "defined." By comparison, the Racing Beat sounded a little more muddled together, as if the exhaust gases are getting bounced around in the Racing Beat's bigger muffler can and losing a little definition in the tonal mid-high range. That's definitely not to say the Racing Beat sounded bad or anything, just drawing a subjective comparison and trying to express it in words!

Volume wise, it is definitely louder than the Racing Beat. I would say that the volume increase was not anything unexpected - I believe the guy in the Facebook group went from a stock exhaust system with pre-cat and cat straight to a downpipe, high flow cat, and the PE-TR. However, despite the louder overall volume, I would argue that the helmholtz resonator of the PE-TR resulted in an overall slight reduction of in-cabin drone when cruising and on highways. It will definitely sing when you get on the throttle though! I think that anybody replacing a single tip canister exhaust with the PE-TR will not find a huge increase in volume.

So i got the Tanabe/Revel exhaust in the mail yesterday. While the box was open in the top, it was in good order and everything checked out (it could have been opened by customs). It also had a damaged corner, but the internal packaging was great so no damages to the exhaust.
The welds are beautiful and the entire exhaust looks very well built. Its polished stainless and was 99% spotless. No fingerprints or anything, showing that there was at least some interest in delivering something nice which says something of the business culture.
It came with gaskets and hardware, and install instructions.

The exhaust itself was $625 and then $220 for shipping to Norway. While i could have saved a few $ by using ebay, i wanted to use a shop that helps the community. My reward was that the declared value must have been mislabeled and i saved about $150 on import tax. (ebay sadly never make such mistakes)
It was ordered the May 4th and arrived May 17th. According to my tracking it was shipped the first working day in the US using FedEx. During my email talks with Chris at Banzai Racing, his longest response time was 9 minutes. While he was very short and to the point, i got the answers i needed.
If there was any doubt before, after this i will use Banzai for anything i can. Top service, great communication and fast shipping. Can i ask more?

I will get some pictures of it tomorrow night as the wife is away and cant yell at me for putting car parts on the dinner table for photos

Interested to hear your impressions of it on the car!

When removing/re-installing exhaust use something like WD-40 on the rubber hangers, makes removing and re-installing a BREEZE. I also use hose pliers (like long needle nose pliers with a circle at the end, typically used to twist and break free hoses) with one end on the rubber and one end on the metal hanger to push it out.

A note on exhaust sound -

If you have sequential twins and a stock main cat, most any exhaust will be "not loud". The turbo control door in the twins drops sound levels big time when you aren't transitioned to the second turbo. The stock main cat is also a big restriction and a big "sound eater".

Some exhausts that would sound fine on a sequential car are VERY loud at idle on a single turbo car. This can make it hard to compare exhausts from car to car.

In general, a larger muffler and an oval style muffler like the Tanabe Medallion will be quieter. A small straight through muffler like the Apexi N1 will be louder.

The Racing Beat exhaust is kind of an odd duck, they've been making it for as long as there's been an FD and they've revised it MANY times over the years. Some were mild steel with black painted muffler, some are all polished stainless, different tips, etc. That said, some are louder than others and some are quieter. They are well built and fit nicely but it's a crap shoot since there are so many variations.

The only 2 exhausts that I do not recommend are the Apexi N1 Duals and the Blitz Nur-Spec. N1 Duals fit terribly and will melt the plastic valence at the bottom of the bumper, they are also INSANELY loud and just don't sound good. The Blitz Nur-spec fits OK but looks kind of cheap and "meh" and just has a lousy sound to it.

There are literally HUNDREDS of exhausts that have been made for the FD over the years, the Japanese tuners have made TONS. They also typically hold up well over time so used exhausts many times just need a good polish and you're in business.

I have a stock exhaust JDM (so no precat) with the Tanabe. I like the sound pre-transition, but I feel like once the twins are both doing their thang the sound becomes ugly. It comes off as a harsher more forced sound to me that is hard to describe.

Without hearing a sample anywhere, I decided on the RE Amemiya Dolphin Tail 90 Curl. It’s a 3.5”/90mm exhaust with resonated midpipe. Lots of free-flowing exhaust but extremely civilized. I have a stock port engine, Turblown EFR 8474 IWG kit and 3.5” downpipe. Since I couldn’t find a video before I bought it I decided to make one. It’s kind of long but you can skip to about 13:30 to hear some idling and on-ramp to the freeway. This is about 50% throttle with shifts around 7500 (still breaking in the engine, it has about 10 miles on in the video).

While the relevance and interest in the thread is probably past, i thought to update with my impressions after mounting it:

- Fitment: 100% spot on. Either using the stock cat studs with nuts, or the supplied hardware.
Alignement was 100% and super easy.

- Sound: Its perfect! No drone in the 80-100km/h area which is our typical speed limit. Very deep nice sound at idle and low rpm. Wont wake up any neighbours. Nice roar at wot. Exactly what i was looking for!

This is definitely a solid option for those wanting to tone things down! Glad it worked out for you.

A little late to the game but I'm looking for similar as the OP and would rather have duals like stock similar to Racing Beat but have been let down by the sound quality I have heard lately from their mufflers. I found this which looks like it would be a perfect fit but this is the only place I have seen it. I can find the single tip similar to the Tanabe Medalion but not the duals like in this Add. Hesitant to send $1K to a shop I'm not remotely familiar with across the world.

I’ve had so many at this point over my 25 years of ownership and I can say FIRMLY that the st mays shotgun exhaust is the best sound and best looking exhaust out there. Find one and buy it no matter what the ask is.

fyi I am 47 and the st mays is fine.

Needless to say, its got to go. Searching gives me about 87697854673445 hits, and nobody got time for that.

Taking recommendations for:
- Dual-Tips are my preference, since they are elegant and look OEM+
- Mellow nice burble, but not loud
- Will support some 350-450 RWHP
- Good looking
- Long lasting and can take the rotary heat.

Optional:
- Any really good looking and sounding single tip will be considered (Tanabe Medalion comes to mind).

So far the only ones i know of are the Racing Beat. What other options are there?
A positive with the RB option is that i can polish away the laser etched logo and they have been around for ages, negative is that its rumored to be restrictive, are on backorder everywhere, and pretty expensive.
