Gear Puller for 5th gear syncro.

Just found this pic of the homemade gear puller I made for my 5th gear syncro replacement.

I must say it was alot of work but it sure feels good to shift to 5th now.

Nice, very creative. Downright elegant and inexpensive solution.

I just heated mine with a propane torch, it just slid right off with a couple of taps from a small ball peen hammer.

Of course I may have ruined the shaft.......

is it hard to replace the snycros? if all you have to do is make that puller thing, then it should be pretty easy right?
can i do this? i just pulled my engine and tranny out (with everything else becasuse im rebuilding an fd) and my 5th gear syncro is just about gone as well. if i could that would be great, to get it rebuilt is pretty expensive i hear.

where did you the parts to make that tool? and what are the part #s.
thanks

It is not that hard once you have the transmission out. I have a few pics that might help you that I can get together. And you can rent my puller - $10.00 plus shipping back to me or to the next person depending on the timing. I think I have $30 and an hour or so of labor making it. If you want to make one I will let you know how I did it. Also the parts for the 5th gear syncro and not expensive at all - I think less than $75 for everything. Call ray at malloy mazda and he will hook you up.

I too have the 5th gear synchro replacement on my "to do" list this winter. I have heard several people mention Malloy Mazda. My search engine is probably as sad as my winter car because I couldn't find it. Do you have a number or link? Thanks.

BTW, someone created a M$ Word document of the 5th Gear Synchro Replacement How-To a while back. I can't find the thread or the original owner of the document. If there is enough interest, I can host the How-To for people.
