Fuel Filter Changed Tonight DAM

I would like to say that i will never NEVER replace this thing agian, it would have been easyer to redo the entire fuel system.

What was Mazda thinking when they put that thing in that location.

It took me about 2 hours to change it.

If it really bothers you a lot, you can relocated it somewhere else in the rear, or possibly the engine bay like some others have.

I did mine last weekend and it took about an hour. Not as bad as I had heard it would be. I made a couple of plugs prior to the change for the filter itself and the fuel line. Everything went smoothly and I had a fuel tank of gas of which I only lost a couple of shot glasses full while placing the plugs. Toughest part was the spring clamps which a small pair of "needle nose" type vise grips helped to get under control.

HAHAHAHA. I did mine yesterday too. I realized 3/4 of the way thru it that you could get to it with a socket wrench over top of the brace in back off the diff. Next time it wont take me as long and I refuse to tell how long it DID take!

I did mine a few months ago and it took me about an hour with some beverage drinking and **** talking happening at the same time. So I figure I could get it done in 30 minutes if I was concentrating.

And RX7Wishing is right, gas in the armpits burns like crazy!

TIP: Wrap a few absorbing paper towels around your wrists or forearms and secure them with a rubber band. Pretty unconventional, ..but it'll keep fuel from running into Da Pits!!

It would take that long alone to depressurize the fuel system, disconnect the battery, jack up the car, lower it, reconnect the battery, and prime the fuel system.

Took me a few hours, but that included a trip to the parts store and an In-n-Out burger. Could probably do it the next time in 1/3 of the time.

My fuel filter is clamped to my rear subframe, tucked up out of harm's way. Now I don't even need to jack the car up to change it

I've been thinking of putting a surge tank in my FD when I get it.

Um... if I do that, where should I mount the filter? On the S.Tank-> engine line?

Also, sorry to threadjack but where can I mount a surge tank vertically without having it in the cabin?

The guides posted in this forum are very thorough. Some additional learning from my experience (a couple of weeks ago) is that the hoses come off easily by twisting and not pulling. Lubrication/Penetrant will help loosening the clamps a little (stated in the guides but I thought I say it again).

The HP filter should be on the line to the engine. So yes, you're correct.

How big of a surge tank are you talking? And why a surge tank?

Negative, the lift helped though. Drove the car into the garage, unscrewed gas cap, lifted car, removed shield near diff, disconnected lines, loosened the fuel filter cradle or what ever the **** its called, put new one in, and reverse process. A buddy of mine can do it in just shy of 15 minutes without a lift. Amazingly I did not get fuel all over myself either.
