To those of you who can jack up the car, depressurize the fuel system, disconnect the battery, remove the cover, unbolt the bracket, clamp the hoses, remove the hose clamps and hoses, unscrew the bracket from the old filter, reattach it to the new one, rebolt the bracket to the chassis, attach hoses and cllips and position them properly, unclamp the hoses, reattach battery and prime the fuel system, start the car and check for leaks, attach cover, lower the car, and clean up the spilled fuel - all in 15 or 20 (or was it 5?) minutes... well, I bow down before your mad skillz.

I'm amazed that you are all not out there earning $150-$200k per year as contract mechanics given these sort of productivity levels.

I always think a job takes 30 minutes, then I look at the clock and have to add an hour to it.

A buddy of mine can do it in just shy of 15 minutes without a lift. Amazingly I did not get fuel all over myself either.
When are you and/or your Buddy coming down to Corpus?? I have a little 15 minute job for you

I'm always down to help, I'll hit you up next time I'm in town. Changing the fuel filter is pretty easy if you just do it and don't get side tracked. First time I changed it took me 45 minutes.

How big of a surge tank are you talking? And why a surge tank?
When I get my RX-7 (I'm almost done with geeking up about it as much as I can so I dont end up marooned with a lemon or a problem I cant fix/diagnose, and so I know how to take care of the work of art it is) I plan on doing autocrossing, and maybe even a few runs to Charlotte (Lowes now?) Motorspeedway.

I've heard of fuel starvation under hard cornering if youre not full on gas, and I'd really rather not blow out seals by knocking just becuase I took a turn! So, I figured a surge tank and doing the work myself would be a way to just add another safety layer to it - and it seems to be easier and better overall than tryign to baffle the fuel tank.

If you really think I dont need to do that on a weeknd racer/curvy road carver, then tell me and I wont waste my time, lol.

I pay people to do mines.

I hate monkeying around in cars these days.

Maybe a sign of aging.

After just wrestling a contorted midpipe into the underside of a camaro all day WITHOUT a lift, then giving up and dremeling it in half and mending it together with two C-clamps and a short section of pipe that was a quarter inch bigger internal diameter, I must say I have immense satisfaction that I can actually talk while driving the car and be heard by a passenger.

I still wanna know if I need to mount a surge tank for autocrossing and occasional track days LOL
