oh boy.... here we go with this old technology ****.... im so tired of hearing that term on this forum.

theres nothing wrong with a front mount. they work fine. are you looking for a kit or are you wanting to but just a front mount and make your own piping?

let me go ahead and say it now since im sure it will come up later..... using a front mount does make you more prone to cooling problems. when done correctly you will be fine. just make sure you duct it properly and use a good quality radiator.

The V-mount is superior because it cools the air while reducing the piping volume for better response.

The FMIC is a inferior design to the V-mount because it doesn't perform as well in almost....yes almost every category. FMIC do well cooling the air charge, but at the expense of spool and cooling. the v-mount does it all.

You can make a v-mount cheap as well if you piece it all together and make the brackets yourself.

The problem is no one makes a nice bolt in v-mount kit right now except Greddy. Its a great kit but will run you close to $3600. There are RX-7store and Defined, but neither come with all the brackets that you will need to mount the power steering, a/c, etc. If you have some fabrications skills its not a big deal but it does take some work. I install a lot of Greddy kits at the shop because despite the price, they are extremely complete with all the brackets and ducting and work very well. For a front mount the best deal in my opinion is a Greddy M spec replica.

The Blitz FMIC is the a great solution, the placement does not extent the piping much further than the typical v-mount and it does not completely block the radiator like the Greddy (styles). Additionally comes with every bracket, bolt, hose, etc for installation and it does not require the front nose or bumper support to be modified.

the treadstone front mount is pretty good as well since the inlets are on top and facing up

I'm a fan of the ETS intercooler as it allows pretty much everything to remain in the stock location. It's worked very well for me!

Thanks for replys guys
I know I will loose some spooling with the extra piping.
The goal is cooler air with the front mount. The turbo I'll be runing is an efr8379 or a gt35r.
And the hp goal will be 450.

As said above ETS makes a quality kit for a good price
ETS Mazda RX7 FD Intercooler Upgrade Kit 1993-1995

Also you can do a Vmount for pretty cheap, Go with a Bell intercooler and either source the radiator from them as well or some other place. Piping is easy to get, brackets you can get from your local hardware store. Honestly it's really easy to make your own quality kit, don't need to spend a crazy amount to just be ripped off from aftermarket companies.

I run a GT3574R turbo on mine with the M spec. I think you could piece together a V-mount for a really good price and have it perform better than the M-spec. I am tuning a guy who has the GT3574 journel bearing and we did a custom V-mount on his. I will fill you in on how it performs when I tune it this weekend or next. here are some pics of his. This is only mid stage pics....but he is fabbing a box to put around his intake next to the intercooler and radiator which gets fresh air.

This is more important than a FMIC IMO. you get cold air into the intake, compress it, and need less intercooler power, with the V-mount you have fresh air cooling the intercooler, and radiator. He also went to a dual oil cooler set up.
