FPD-fuel pulsation dampener How to?

I am looking for a step by step write up for changing my FPD. I have a strong fuel smell and with over 100k miles, it is time to swap it out. I have done a lot of searching on rx7club as well as lightning in a world of thunder and rob robinette and couldn't find a how-to. Normally I would just get the basics a figure it out as I went along, but because I do not have a garage and will have to do this in the parking lot, I want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row. I have never taken the rat's nest out so this should be interesting but the local shop quoted me 578 to do it, so in i go.

Anyone know where to find this information?
Thanks!

There really isn't a specific how to. I highly recommend against doing it anywhere where you can't leave the car for a week if something breaks - like a solenoid or something.

You basically need to pull off the elbow, throttle body and UIM on the visible level. That info is on Robinette's site. Then once you are through that layer, you have to pull off the rats nest of solenoids and vacuum lines. That is the bitch. Something often breaks while you are down there - solenoids, vac hoses etc.

You also should do new fuel lines while you are there and ground the fuel pump as specified on Robinette's site to check for other fuel leaks from the injectors and fuel pressure regulator. They may be faulty as well and you might need to order some parts for them too.

I paid ~$500 also for that job.

damn... its not that hard... just do it over the weekend... like he said above.... have some extra vac hose on hand and I've go a full set of solinoids if you break one just pm me and I'll ship it out. Take your time and you'll get it done... and when removing the retaining screws for the FPD just a pair of channel locks on the sides to break them loose... that way they won't strip.

Be sure to read up before attempting the job. Learn from the mistakes of others, and have all the right tools ready.

If you are nimble enough, then you might be able to get away with just removing the UIM and ACV. You'll probably need to disconnect the wiring harness and pull it out of the way. If you have a fuel leak and the stock rubber tubing, then chances are you are going to be replacing a lot of hardened vacuum lines.

I just did it. It is a lot of work, especially if you haven't had a silicone hose job done already. You'll want to have the vac hose diagram printed in color, too for reference.

You basically need to remove: intake elbow, throttle body, UIM, ignition coils, and solenoid rack. Then you'll be able to remove it. You'll probably need to use a vise-grips to loosen the screws on the FPD, fortunately they have decently tall heads to grab on to.

It's not hard, but it is time consuming, and if you get tired/sloppy you'll break a solenoid or something.

were would be a good place to get the FDR. I just bought one of these cars and have ton-o-questions.

every time i try and start flooded plugs are soaked.

vac lines were mis routed so i fixed the rats nest and rebuilt the turbos at the same time. problem is it didn't fix my problem. ecu looks like it came from a juck yard can't test it. tested fuel lines 15psi on the in side but i get a constant flow on the return line, normal?

any one have aqny other advise getting new wires tomorrow but don't think that will solve the problem

thanks for any input
