Yeah, I've noticed that it will even melt the plastic connector. It definitely gets hot.
Though how much is from electrical resistance and how much is just from the nuclear-furnace that is a FD engine bay, is hard to say.

well that was the obvious answer,, the heat from the enginebay.
but i did the test, i waited till night and let everythng cool down, started the car
and the ground wire was the first thing to get hot, i touched the fire wall and intake manifold, and guess what?.... cold as ice but the wire was hot???????????

Wow, is your battery relocated? Is there another ground that maybe has a bad connection forcing more current through this wire?

If you haven't done it yet, I suggest adding a few more grounds.

Like Spuddies from 'Over the Hedge'....."enough is never enough".

A bad connection will get hot ,ground or not .Scrap the paint away under the wire connector and run a tap through the threaded hole .Clean the area and bolt on the UIM . Install a larger gage wire and recheck . How easy is that .

If it is your original ground wire -sounds like it - after all these years the plastic clip connection is shot. This bad design was in a TSB and often replaced under the 3k hesitation fix. You can get the replacement part without the clip from the dealer but better and less costly would be to buy a good ground wire and bolt it in place.
