Extend port

I purchased a '93 rx7 at an auction and had it shipped to the US. I had it sent to my builder so they can go through the car. Unfortunately it does have low compression in a housing so we are doing a rebuild. While we have it open i suggested we go some porting. My builder suggested an Extend port. My question is what is an Extend port? I cant find much info on them, mainly street and bridge port.

The car has an HKS V Mount, T04r turbo, HKS exhaust. I have a Haltech1500 and they will be doing tune with 93. We are hoping for 400hp+, what are your opinions on expected power? My plans are Sunday spritied driving and an occasional track day every few months

Pic of the car as it sits right now. The stickers are coming off and doing a respray, and adding some Shine Auto side skirts, I have a set of rare GReddy wheels that are going it as well.

I would clarify with the engine builder what they are thinking of, probably a large street port. I would avoid a bridge port unless it's a track-ONLY car, if you plan on driving it on the street it sucks.

They should be able to show you what they plan on doing port-wise and any pros and cons.

Extended port is just another term for a streetport and there are nearly infinite ways to do a streetport. Each builder has their own style. A medium to larger street port would pair well with that turbo but keep in mind it will shift the powerband upwards.

Thanks for the replies guys. I called them this morning and they are doing a larger street port. The shop that is doing the machine work, the owner has an FC RX7 and is a old rotary enthusiast. My shop who is doing the engine install know my power goals and we are confident 400hp is very attainable. They did say I would lose low end power but mid to high it should be a significant increase.

I want to be able to beat my Evo'stime and the other guys at my local track/airport for SCCA haha im very excited to get this car finished and test it out but it looks like its gonna be a winter build and have to get her out next spring unless the weather stays nice through November

In the "throw more money at the car" arena, that T04R is a pretty old school laggy turbo. It works, but you're looking at no power below 4000 RPM. There are a lot of newer turbos, like the Borg-Warner internal wastegate turbos, that have a very fat power band and can get well into the 400 HP range.

But, you can also just get the engine built and going, drive the car as-is for a while, then look at doing a different turbo down the road.

Yeah my goal at this time is to get the car painted, engine rebuilt, and the car in my possession and drive it for a few years at the current power level and if I'm unhappy with the turbo take it to Banzai as they are local to me. Thanks for all the info

Hey guys, I finally got the motor rebuilt with a mild port, everything is painted and just got the info back from the dyno and will be going to pick the car up next week. With the mods listed on the first post the car made 297whp at 12psi. I was hoping for more but I think for the moment I am going to enjoy the car like it is. I think almost 300 at the wheels is more than enough for what I plan on doing with the car which is a mostly Sunday driving with some spirited driving here and there. I'm afraid the T04r turbo is going to be very laggy and wont even be "awake" at 12 psi. I have been reading so much about these cars over the last year but I am still a noob to this platform, but I just want to get the car and start enjoying it. Any thoughts on the power it made?

That sounds pretty conservative. It's definitely well on the safe side, but yeah you will likely have very little power below 4000 RPM. Any reason they stayed at 12psi and didn't go for more boost?

Regardless sounds like it's time to get your hands on the car and actually drive it some. Let the car tell you what it needs. Don't worry about chasing numbers and see how the car fits you and how you want to use it. You may need to do some suspension or brake work, exhaust may be too loud, etc - find out what you do and don't like as it sits.

They just wanted to stay on the safe side as far as tuning goes with a fresh motor and I am okay with that for the time being. They are a great shop and have done everything I could want from them and I trust them but they are not a specialty shop for RX7s so I think that played a factor as well. I am located about 1 hour from Bonsai Racing so I'm thinking during the winter months taking the car to them and having them give it a look over. I agree I just want to get the car and go from there like you said. I'm beyond excited to cruise in this car and take it down some local roads. Thanks for your input Dale.
