Question Exhaust Leak - HELP

Hey, I need some help. I need to get my emissions inspected, but before I can do so, I need to fix an exhaust leak. My only mod is a downpipe. The leak is between the downpipe and the main cat. I replaced the gasket, but that didn't seem to work. Both bolts are tight. Any ideas what it could be? Does the gasket have to be perfectly positioned?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

sounds like the flange is uneven, if the gasket goo doesn't work, try adding another gasket to it....

Thanks for the help. I'll give the gasket goo a try. Is it available at any auto store?

Urgh. Well, I went to an auto parts store, but they said they didn't have any gasket goo for exhaust gaskets. Any places in particular where I can get one?

I also doubled up on the gaskets but it didn't help.

The leak is coming from the left (drivers) side of where the downpipe and cat line up.

I believe you can get some at home depot.

It is called something like gasket maker?
The stuff I am talking about comes in a red tube and is red itself.

Good luck

My POS Corksport didn't line up at all, you could see the angle and gap. I currently have an exhaust leak where my precat meets the manifold. I only have 3 nuts in place. The 4th is a biatch! So if mine lines up perfect and still has a leak with 3 of 4 nuts tight and yours is tight with 2 of 2 nuts, I don't think yours is flush. What brand did you buy?

i also had a slight leak when i put the two nuts back on to connect the dp to the cat. i was told that you can't tighten one nut then the other. you must tighten them at the same time, a little on one then the other, to make sure the gasket is compressed the right way. hope this helps. nick
