Advice on a possible RX-7 purchase
I've been searching for a 3rd gen RX-7 for awhile and came across a 93 R1 with 77000 miles, 3000 miles on a new engine.
Here's the ad:
"Under Warranty! 3000 miles on NEW Mazda factory motor. R1 black on black, RARE. Has the following upgrades: - new motor - new radiator and hoses (VERY important on older RX7's) - new vaccuum lines for the twin turbos (also VERY important) - new motor mounts - new ACT clutch & pressure plate - HKS downpipe - catback exhaust - engine all polised to chrome look - aluminum AST (VERY important) - GAB 5 way shocks - Autometer gauges, AF & boost - turbo timer - B&M short shifter - K&N air filter - Oil changed every 1500 mi This car is owned by someone who knows RX7's. This is one of the cleanest ones you'll find around. Don't buy a higher priced with 50K+ "original miles" , you are asking for trouble (ask me I know). Showing the car on weekends or late night. I am the 2nd owner. Have all stock parts to go back on car if you want. Warranty good untill May 2003 or 9000 more miles, whichever comes first."
What would you expect to pay based on the info provided? Are there any critical questions I should ask? I'm going to look at the car this weekend, I just wanted to first consult with the rx-7 experts and prepare myself. Thanks in advance to any responces!

Thanks everyone for the input. I posted this question on other car boards and they said that what the guy is asking for ($17.5K) is too much and that I should get a 300ZX or Mistubishi 3000GT. I don't want those cars damnit, I want an rx-7. Now that I've got results from people who know RX-7's I feel a little better. Soon I'll be making non-newbie posts about how to work on my car :o) Thanks again!

Yes it sounds like a nice car - but don't give him 17.5. That is just too much. When I was looking at FDs I found several 93s with new engines and turbos in the $14-$15k range. Just because they have been replaced doesn't mean you aren't going to have any problems. Give him $15.5 and put the extra 2 aside for repairs down the road. Its just my opinion though.

I recently bought a 93 R-1 Black w/22,000 original miles on it, all stock for $19k. Despite the probs that come with 93's I thought I got a good deal on it, although I'm having second thoughts with the selling prices for 7's nowadays.
