Engine stalls when cold
Engine stalls when cold
I have a 93 FD with a relative new engine. When the engine is cold and when coming up to a stop the engine will stall. After the engine warms up and the whole engine is heat soaked the stalling goes away. I am wondering if this could be a sticky idle air control valve or is it tuning. I recently put a new dashpot on and that helped some but the part when the engine is cold. Anybody have a suggestion.
Thanks for the suggestion. I changed the values and saw a little improvement. The problem is only when the engine is cold but when it warms up there are no problems. The problem seems to be a sticky IAC which cannot open the flow fast enough to keep the engine running when coming to a stop. Before I spring for another IAC are there any more parameters that affect idle or something like a choke setting.
Thanks

If the secondary throttle plates are not closing all the way (or there is a vacuum leak), that can cause a lean idle condition which would be more obvious cold and could cause stalling.

another issue could be the could be the fuel correction for that temperature range could need adjustment. it would depend on what afr you were seeing though. before searching for a mechanical issue, it would be best to all the way rule out the possibility of simply needing a correction in the map. since turning the fuel cut restore to be higher had an impact, there's a chance that it simply needs more fuel in the colder temp range
