Dave at KDR
If your in NY, I use Dave at KDR in Penn. I'm on LI and it only takes me 2 1/2 hrs in my rex. He's reasonable and I think he's the many especially if your in NY. Tell him that Dave S w/white 95 Auto recommended. Good luck

The whole CNC porting thing has been tried with rotaries and not been found to be particularly productive. Most people dont know this but mazda's ports are actually not symmetrical from the factory, making it hard to get symmetrical results from a CNC setup or similar. All rotary porting that I am aware of is done by hand. Based on the one machinist that I saw firsthand that tried to set up a machine to do the work, hand porting is considerably superior in this case due to the shape of the ports.
I'd suggest shipping to BDC in Texas, if you want a truely magical port that is a work of art.
I'd suggest taking it to Ihor and Rich at IRP in Clifton, NJ if you want a very strong, healthy port.
I'd suggest having them build the motor too.

Any Rotary shop that has been building engines for a while can give you a good port job. If the shop is willing, see if they will take some pictures or let you come in and take a look at it before they build the engine. You will notice most port work looks similar from shop to shop. Some shops like to spend the time and polish the port, but its not needed.

I've seen an engine from there once. The apex seals were flattened/warped in the center due to lack of a bevel on the closing edge of the exhaust port. The engine had low compression after just a few thousand miles as a result. Otherwise it looked great. I put in new seals, beveled the port, and it was good to go.
Just ask for pictures of some of their previous ports. Dont let the shiny polishing fool you. Make sure there is a bevel on the closing edge of the exhaust port, make sure the opening edge is back cut properly and really smooth and not wavy. Just make sure all the lines look nice and straight. There is more to it but if you arent that familiar with it, it will be hard for you to notice any errors anyway.
I appreciate the compliments a couple of you guys gave. Pictures of my port work are available here: http://bdc.cyberosity.com/v/EnginePorting/
