EmbarrASSing Smog Pump!

EmbarrASSing Smog Pump!
Does anyone else have an obnoxiously embarrassing smog pump. Today I noticed mine doing an awful lot of ticking and growling at low rpms, including idle.
Can I just simply unplug the connector for the clutch on the smog pump and continue driving as normal without any negative repercussions?
Any advice would be helpful as I know nothing about the smog pump.

Yes, you can unplug the electric clutch wth no ill effects. Your cat will not be getting any air ( if you have one) so you may not want to leave it in that state too long. A few weeks will not hurt your cat. I had to disconnect my electric clutch when a bearing failed in my airpump.
BTW, $40 shipped is a good price, you better jump on it.

Here is the thread that shows the pics of it. The only problem is the plastic connector that broke because of heat cylcing in the engine bay. Still ran fine since their male adapters.

I have a mid pipe and downpipe so ALL cats are removed. I just installed a whole new exhuast last weekend. While letting the car break in the exhuast and exhuast wrap I did notice the air pump making a moo sound. I have the greedy pulley kit, but i'm not going to install it for alil while since I need block off plates etc. So I can disconnect the airpump some how now and it wont make the annoying MOO noise?

Having been through this myself on my 96 RS There are a couple of lessons I learnt that might help or even change your mind. My smog pump was making a similar noise "mooing" or "burping" around 3000RPM when I first got it. It was serviced initially by the car yard's garage who disconnected the wiring harness & said it was fixed & not to worry about it. I wasn't overly impressed & on my next service took it to a Mazda dealer/garage. Their most experienced mechanic took one look & said "that's killing your engine" Apparently unplugging it does a couple of things. 1.) Sets the engine management computer into "limp mode" i.e reatrds the engine so you can take it for servicing. 2.) Dumps a S**t-load of extra hot air into your cats (if you're running cats that is) The pump actually pumps cooler air to the exhaust to help combat the high temps that rotary engines produce. Turns out that the noise was the pump disengaging as I accelerated & engaging as I decclerated (It only starts pumping air at arounf 3000RPM) & the reason I could hear it was that my car is running pod filters instead of the standard airbox.
Best fix I know of if your pump isn't actually failing would be to get a Power FC & ditch the pump & the cats all together. Which is what I'm gonna do once I finish paying off an engine re-build (apparently the guy that had it before didn't believe in antifreeze!?!?)
Let me know if I'm wrong (I can only rely on what I'm told by someone who should know... I'm not a mechanic myself)
