Lights turns on and Motor turns off

I have a question.

I'm faced with idle problem with my FD. But my situation is little different from what i've head or seen.

At idle, when I turn on the head lights or even the corner lights (AC also), my idle drops and starts to jump up and down 500rpm~1000rpm and about in 30 sec. or so and the engine just dies....Otherwise, nomal idle has no problem. What could this be related with?

My mods and status on motor:

m2 ecu stage 3

Motor (leaks radiator from the resovor tank when driven for too long or hard, white smoke for first 3min, low radiator light turns on once in awhile and needed to be refilled. O-ring problem...

bnr stage 1

Koyo Radiator

Thats about it. no catback no md...

Anything suspicious which relates to the bad idle with lights turned on?

Borrow someone's PFC and use it to check the sensors in the car.

your problem is with your grounds. you need to find out if all you grounds are hooked up. there are two main grounding points in the front of the car if those are not hooked up then they will cause these problems. these grounds points are what all the lighting systems work off of.

thankx mazdaboy, i was suspecting the grounds too. Is it possible ground the wire from the front of the body straight to the (-) side of the battery? or its something else?

I don't think that you are telling us the whole story. Did you do something too your car and now the lights don't work or did you buy the car this way. was it involved in a crash? you will be able to see the grounding points they are right under the bumper. they are in a clip that holds 6 or 7 wires togther. and there are two.

ok thankx mazdaboy. No, no accidents, no nothing. Only thing i can think of is....nothing. lol I didnt touch anything at all besides the mods i've listed above. And the problem did not occur right after the mods. It happend few months after. My head lights/corner lights work fine. I have no problem with the car. Only thing is that my swich which is located by the clutch pedal is not working perfectly. When i start the car, I'd have to step onto the clutch pedal really hard.

The problem could be a vacuum hose leak. Your elect load system works within certain ranges and you could be on the edge. It just takes a little more load to push the car to stall. Since you have the a/c on and it does not stall there a good chance the elect load system is doing its job. I would consider the basic vacuum hoses, the map sensor the tps adjustment etc. first.

Okay, well you mentioned the clutch switch (which is effectively indicating clutch engaged more often then not, in your case).

So is this problem more prevalent at idle when the clutch pedal is pushed in (clutch disengaged) or all of the time?

when the clutch is pressed down, the idle is stable. Idle jumps up and down when nothing is touched with light swiched turned on. This happens once in awhile. Not constant. When I play with the idle control valve, and make the motor to idle around 1.5rpm w/o turning on the head light, the idle becomes stable with head light on.

I've changed the clutch switch but the symptom remains same. But now, the idle is doing great for some reason.
