Easy Question: Whats the name of this pipe?

I would search but i dont know the name of it so searching is kind of hard. The name of this pipe keeps slipping my mind. It seems that it was plastic in 93's but yet metal in other years? Its the pipe circled in red ( this is not my car)

Yes, that's the Y-Pipe cross-over pipe. When/if you switch to the Efini Y-Pipe, it will be metal.

Where could one find a metal one and will it mate up to the non-efini y-pipe?

(I'm getting a new one because on my old one the opening on the turbo side got out of round, causing the seal to leak. I'm thinking maybe the heat warped it over time? I would be nice to replace it with a metal one...)

They don't make a metal version for the non-efini y-pipe, however, you may be able to custom one yourself.

Although why don't you want the efini-y pipe?

The efini 'Y' pipe and cross-over bolt together, rather than the stock coupling which was prone to leaking. The cross-over's will not interchange. If you just want to replace the stock cross-over I'd recommend placing a WTB ad in the 3rd gen. parts-for-sale section. Or, for ~175-$200 you can get the efini 'Y' pipe which is all metal, bolts together and flows better.

BTW, early '93s had the crossover pipe painted silver, and the throttle body elbow was also painted silver. Later '93s went to a black crossover pipe, and '94s had both pipes black.

On all US cars, that pipe is plastic. You have to get the '96+ Y-pipe setup to have an aluminum pipe.

BTW, the name "Efini y-pipe" is a HUGE misnomer. It was added in Japan in the '96 model year, but early (92-95) RX-7's were sold as Efini's in Japan, and they had the plastic pipe. But, the name has been around so long I doubt we'll change any time soon.

I'd probably get one if i wasn't planning on going single later this year. But if i keep on having boost leak problems in that particular area i just might consider it...
