broken nipple fitting, should i tap it?

well, today i was replacing my coolant thermo sensor when i bent and cracked the nipple pretty good, its the the nipple fitting that is seated for the coolant return line on the water housing right next to the alternator. well, for a short fix i put RTV on it (aircraft sealant for jet engines, i am in the Navy so go figure) and plugged to hose back on it. i know this wont hold forever and wondering if i should dremel the nipple off and tap it with a 3/8" pipe thread to a 6AN. then hook it up with a 6AN to a 3/8" hose end to the spider pipe. you think i should do that or does anyone have any other ideas?
