Which is easier??

My TPS (throttle position sensor) is all out of wack. So from reading other post on this forum that you can adjust it by a voltmeter. I put in a different motor into my car (old one blew) and its been giving me the bouncing idle. I change all the vac lines during the swap. I actually have the old engine with all the parts on it. So what I was thinking was take off the throttle body from the blown motor and put on the new motor. The TPS is still on the old engne and never been tampered with, so this way I think I wouldnt have to adjust anything. So would it be easier to try to adjust the TPS or Exchange throttle bodies?

Any time you take off the TB and/or TPS sensor, it has to be adjusted.

The TPS sensor is located on the TB, you can't remove it without removing the TPS...and you can't install the TPS without adjusting it...

So your easiest bet is to adjust it

You don't need to remove the TPS to remove the TB..... just unplug it.

That's just my understanding of it. maybe you can unplug the TPS from the wiring harness and not have to move it.

You can!

Just unplug the TPS and unhook the throttle cable and the TB comes right off. You can pre-adjust a lot of settings before installing it back to the UIM. Mahjik suggested installing allen head screws instead of phillips head screws to make adjusting the TPS on the TB while its attacted to the car, easier.

How would you adjust the TPS when its off the engine? Wouldnt you need a complete circuit (negative and positive signal)? It does say to use a volt meter and the key to the on position to adjust.

Your kidding right ?......It would definitely be easier to swap throttle bodies then just follow the procedure for adjusting the idle. There is a procedure on the forum for setting one correctly and if the TPS hasn't been monkeyed with you should have no problem adjusting it on the new motor.

Ok by the sounds of it, seems like swapping the throttle body is the best route. I will start it tommorow monring. What do I have to loose except for time and patients.

I just finished swapping the TB and it works Perfect, no more bouncing idles. So in conclusion I would say changing the TB is easier then adjusting the TPS. Took about 1 hour but I am no mechanic. Pretty sure those that are experiance can do it in 30 min.
