Droopy Hood Liner

Short of removing or replacing the hood liner, has anyone found a way to keep the OEM one from drooping and coming loose. I know it's 15 years old, but I want to keep the original with all the stickers.

I was thinking about some wide double sided adhesive all the way around the edge to help keep it snug, don't know about the heat effect though.

Any help would be appreciated.

I removed mine when it was hanging. Try some 3M spray adhesive.

My brother got me a new one while my car was in for paint. I am still working on the car so I have not put it on yet. I might be wrong, but I thought you could get those original decals from the black dragon catalogs. I can't find the catalogs right now but maybe someone has one that might be able to tell you if they can be ordered.

Is the drooping caused by the liner falling away INTACT from the metal of the hood, or is it de-laminating and having some "layers" fall/droop? If it is the first, you can use headliner adhesive, it is about $8 a can, works great...just follow the directions.
If it is the second scenario...you need to pull it and replace.

Anyone know the cost of a new liner?

If it is hanging because the areas around the plastic plug is torn, you could use some duck tape. I've used duck tape to repair the areas around the holes for the plastic plugs, put a small strip on top and bottom and poke a hole in the tape for the plastic fastener plug. The duck tape will reinforce the loose and broken areas around the hole and when you have tape on top and bottom the tape will tape to itself in some areas making it nice and strong. Let me just state that I'm not talking about duct taping the hood liner to the hood, that would look like crap but just make small little pads out of it and put it on both sides of the hood liner as reinforcement.

I recently replaced mine. What had happened on mine is that over time it was tearing away from the plastic thingys (technical term) that hold it up. Bottom line, makes the whole engine compartment look like new again! (assuming you keep a good looking engine compartment). Off topic, but CD-2 engine dressing on a clean engine looks fantastic.

3 feet of what stuff? This stuff?

I know you guys are concerned about it coming off, but I was wondering if anybody has actually taken the liner off? I have mine intact, but I'm thinking of switching to a CF hood, and I have to get the liner off before I can disconnect the windshield fluid hose. I probably wont be able to use it on an aftermarket hood because its vented and all, but I want to leave it intact because.. well why waste a good liner.

Yes, people have. I've seen paint marks above the turbos that I would attribute to the heat going through the hood. I can't confirm this- but perhaps someone else will chime in. I would definitely have a liner under a fiber or cf hood that was going to see any significant road time.

I haven't had a liner under my hood in 5 years. Not sure if it made any difference on my car as my paint was never that great.

Does anybody have any advice as to how to go about taking the liner off? The thing itself looks awful brittle and those pins(?) holding it on are plastic, and I'm sure 15 years and exposure to that kind of heat isn't great for them.

There's a specific tool you can get to remove the clips, it looks like a gasket scraper with a thin slot cut into the end in the center. The liner should come right down after that.

Re: guys with single turbos, a heat blanket goes a long way towards keeping the heat down.

Also, big Ray sells the liner new for like $140ish, but the shipping will kill you b/c it's so huge.

Just bumping this up because my hood liner lost another plastic rivet and is about to fall completely off. It pretty much just lays on the engine when the hood's closed.

Did anyone end up buying and installing either one of the options I see here? If so, please post a pic and/or give us a report on how it's holding up.

thnx.

Be aware that the Summit hood liner is pretty thick. I trimmed mine to fit close to the OEM liner outline but it pushes the hood up slightly on the driver's side front corner where it is pressing against something. I'll figure out what it is someday. Other than that, it looks OK and seems to stick very well. I haven't subject it to any extreme heat yet.

Again, why not just get a brand new one (it came with all new fasteners, not sure if they were extra or not), it looks like a new engine compartment and lasts about 15 years!

Natey, those prices aren't exactly cheap. I'm also a big proponent of the OEM piece
