Drilled rotors: best place to get them?

Hi all, I'm just looking for a set of front and rear drilled rotors but am having difficulty finding them. Yes I know the whole debate between drilled vs slotted but for my purposes I simply want drilled. Can anyone point me in the right direction of a good supplier?

Thanks,
Mike

I use cheap generic rotors from ebay. They work 100% for street driving, spirited driving, and lots of autocross runs. I think that you can find drilled ones on there too.

Drilled rotors are a gimmick and are more prone to cracking. Most people who seriously drive their FDs use a good quality solid blank, like you would find on Rockauto (Centric) or OEM.

Do you *need* drilled rotors, or are you just asking for them because you think you should?

I believe they have the (earned) reputation for being more prone to cracking due to cheaper brands simply drilling holes without taking the time to properly bevel them.

Drilled rotors were OEM on the RZ and Spirit R cars, if you're recreating that look, drilled is the way to go for OEM+ look

My Spirit R set . Everything needs to be blasted and repainted, and rotors need to be resurfaced. Hoping it's worth the effort, the drilled discs are expensive and hard to get.

@mr2peak How much larger (F&R) are the rotors? Any major differences with the calipers and do they mount to the stock mounting points?

To the OP, KVR performance brakes supply drilled rotors. Have had EXCELLENT experiences with the blanks/slotted discs. I like how drilled rotors look (have them on 2 OEM on 2 of my vehicles), but as an upgrade I prefer slotted or blanks. Upgrading pads / using new fluid give the most bang for the buck as you know.

Front is 314x30, rear is 314x20. Much thicker for more thermal mass and much more internal airflow. The fronts use RZ / Spirit R specific wider calipers with longer mounting lugs. The rears use the standard calipers on a longer mount. You need 17" wheels to clear them. The calipers are ~$1700 new for a set now, and the discs are ~$700 a pair front and rear.. I'm really hoping these discs can be saved with a sandblast and resurface. Aftermarket 2 piece rotors are available from a few suppliers for a bit less than OEM discs. It's a fairly mild upgrade compared to the aftermarket stuff out there now.

Powerstop stuff is decent and reasonably priced. They have the rears as well.

You won't get any real difference between those and regular rotors IMHO, but if you want the look there ya go.

Here's another option. These guys have been treating me well for years.

EDIT: Car looks great ZE.. Nice and clean, and it looks like you've got the ride height just about perfect.

I had inexpensive drilled rotors on my daily driver for years... they made more noise and in retrospect, they probably didn't help the brakes cool or stop any shorter (no track use).

Went back to stock rotors and haven't had a problem. Some stock rotors are thin and that's why they warp, otherwise I'll stick with quality, vented rotors on all my cars in the future.

The drilled and slotted rotors were a fad for a while... I see that Porsche is still using drilled rotors on the Porsche Cayman GT4 RS, but their rotors are enormous.

I have a set of OEM rotors with the lines carved in them. Not sure what the english term for them is, but they came with my 17" calipers as a kit, and they have the F124 casting mark and the other which i cant remember, same as OEM disks.
Possibly some RS or RZ spec?

Slotted?

I have Bonez drilled and have no issues. I had quite a few hard breaks from 140 to 100 back to back on a track and no problem. Thats with Hawk pads (forgot which ones).
I am pretty easy on th street with them. A few tuning sessions I would hold them while accelerating to try and hit the cells good. Again not issue.

Cheap drilled I would be cautious. I wanted a set on my infiniti in a day playing around on the road. Much heavier vehicle, but much larger brakes also.

As far as i can tell they are OEMs, but what models got slotted ones from factory?

Those look like Dicel Slotted Disc (SD) rotors. They also make Plain Disc (PD) rotors, and a variety of different paint colors and finishes on the rotor hats. Seem to be the most common replacements

I also assumed this at first, but the casting marks are identical to OEM disks i have seen, like the F124-1 mark. The part number for at least some of the 17" disks start with F124

Since those are JDM rotors they probably were getting OEM blanks from the manufacturer and machining them.

Zeckhausen is a great resource for brakes - for our RX7s and other cars. Owner used to own an FD as well as being a nice guy and providing good customer service.
