F1 cars may ACT like heavy cars due to the tremendoes grip and downforce... it takes alot of effort to drive one in many respects.
Nobody necessarily "wants" heavy steering, but I think the point is that the true manual rack does offer a bit better feel (IMO), MARGINALLY more effort for anything other than a 3-point u-turn in a parking lot, and saves weight and complexity along with gaining access to engine components, like spark plugs.
Also: removing it affords you a nice hole to mount other things, like larger catch cans, air seperator tanks, dedicated OMP supplys, whatever.
You'd really be surprised at how light the steering is.
