Difference in the R1, R2, etc...

I am new to this board and also fairly new to Rotaries. I just sold my 88 GTI with a VR6 swap and am looking into getting a 3rd gen Rex this summer once I get my funds in order. I was wondering if someone could tell me the difference in the R1, R2, R3, and even the touring packages. As far as I know the engine is the same in all the 3rd gens so all I can think of is that the suspension and cosmetics are different. Any help is appreciated, I know I have a lot to learn about these cars...

Touring - Sunroof
Cruise control
1 oil cooler.

R1 and so on i think- No cruise Control
2 oil Coolers opposed to just one.
Better suspension (The OEM strut bar that everyone wants)
Brake Ducks?
No sunroof
all black interior?
Diffrent Front lip?

I got my info somwhere hehe but i think that its accurate.. somewhat. I own a touring and havent seen many R1s in real life so these are based on what ive heared.

From what I've seen that not many other people have noticed is that the R1 strut bars are different fromt the R2 strut bars.

The R1's you can adjust for length, and the R2's you can't. To stiffen the front end i guess.

As if I need any more understeer.

Check the sticky thread at the top of the forum:

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...threadid=68640

It will have all the information you'll need to get started researching the car.

Use the SEARCH button and everything should be answered. After you click on the search button, enter "reliability" in the appropriate box and several posts will show up. Also, check the archives section.

Damn, I think we should make it a rule that newbies cannot reply to other newbies questions. It's like the blind leading the blind.

First of all, read the sticky at the top of the page.

Second, SEARCH.

Third, here's some links to start you off with.

oops, took too long to get those links

Touring (93) and PEP (94,95)
-Had sunroof, leather, cruise control, and bose system
R1 (93)
-Different compound of cloth (forget the name) interior, dual oil coolers, no sunroof, no cruise, stiff *** suspension, front strut bar. front/rear spoilers
R2 (94,95)
-Same as R1 except not as harsh of a suspension
Base (lightest of 3)
-Cloth interior
-I don't think it had the bose system, cruise or sunroof.
I am not to familiar with the Bases.

If I was wrong about something else please correct me

94 and 95 PEP package did not have bose system standard, it was a stand-alone option, also on R models, only the shocks were stiffer, springs were same
everything else correct

Difference in ride comfort between R1 and R2 is pretty dramatic. Get in a touring and you feel like you are in a sedan.

I'm used to my teeth chattering on crap roads now.

The Bose system didn't come in anything but the Touring. If it doesn't have a Bose it isn't a Touring, not optional. PEG/PEP models had steel sunroofs vs. Tourings glass (in 94 only).

Sorry, I didn't say that correctly. I believe for late 94 and 95, you had to have the PEP package to get access to the stand-alone bose system option. I don't see how else you could get the Bose in 95 when they didn't have the touring package anymore, only base, PEP, and R2.
