DEFI gauge problem
Sup guys, i just bought some DEFI D-series gauges to replace my autometer but i ran into a small dilemma.
Ok my water temp gauge is been acting weird. All the wires are hooked up correctly because i doubled and triple checked it. BUT for some reason, after a short drive and i shut the car off, the gauge wont read heatsoak. During the drive, the temps are being read.
For instance, i go for a 20 minute drive, i get home, gauge reads 160F, i shut it off, pop the hood and its about 40 degrees out, it should get cooled down pretty fast. Well about 1, 2 hours past and gauge still reads 160F. The only way for it to read correctly if i get back in the car, put the ing key to ON, then gauge goes through its sweeping stage, then reads the correct temp.
My old autometer would read temp whenever, on, off, running whatever. The defi gauge only reads correctly when the car is running or when i put the key to on.
Is the gauge faulty? Or is that normal or did i screw up the wiring??
Thanks

I think its normal cause mine does the same thing, I had it up to temp and disconnected it after the ignition was off and it is still on that temp setting it was on when I turned off the car. hope that helps.

Hehe thanks. Cause thats weird then, sometimes i like to know what temps my car is when its off (especially in the summer with heatsoak)
Anyway, here is a video i shot just now. Sorry for the blurryness, im still figuring out how to use the damn camera lol

FYI, the gauge was sitting at 150F, then you see how it goes up after i put the key to on, then moves a bit when i take the key out.

The D-gauge is electrical, your Autometer was mechanical. Although I find it weird that Defi wouldn't have the gauges zero out when power is removed -- my Defi Link gauges do. Perhaps there is a problem with the gauge?

I didnt think of it like that, the gauges work perfectly, i just got worried. Such a pita to do these little tasks to the FD, i just get frustrated when i think something is wrong.
Thanks rynberg

I'm having problems with my Defi gauges. About two days ago I went and start up my car, I'd notice's that my E.G.T gauge wasn't getting any readings at all. But the light on that gauge is on. I looked at my boost gauge and the light were off, but my boost gauge works fine. Normally both of the gauges lights will turn on and both of them will get readings. Now one gets the reading and one gets the light. I think I'd might have blown a fuse or firy a wire. Does the gauges uses any fuses? Well my headlights and speed gauges are seem to be worikng fine.
Drift7, sounds to me like you have a loose connection.
If you want the Defi electrical guage to read when the car is off simply plug it into a constant 12V source, not an iginition or key on source. I don't see any problem doing that. I don't think it would do anything except drain your battery a little more when the car is off.
I would check with someone else before attempting to connect it to a constant 12v source and ask how this would effect the drain on your battery when off.
