Cut people a break.

I would like to say something to all 3rd gen owners. Considering that I myself am rather new to the forums here, take this however you want. I have been reading and learning a lot on these forums, but I cant stand that every time someone asks a question 10 people jump all over them for asking something that has already been asked. That's the whole point of these forums for people to ask and learn and have fun. Since everything about these cars that can be possibly be talked about has probably already been covered somewhere, sometime, we should all have no questions left. So why not just close the forum and turn it into a research archive with a search button. I'm not trying to be a jerk, I just think people need to realize that at one point they had no idea what they were talking about at all either. Be considerate of people asking a question that was covered 6 months ago. They probably werent here and dont know. In the same time you roasted them with some smart "SEARCH BUTTON" comment you could have answered their question and made their day. And, not to down the almighty search button, but sometimes it is difficult to sort through a lot of search results to find what you were looking for. Thats all this site is. People with more knowledge helping those with less. We all learn, we all have fun, and we all become equipped to keep these special cars on the road. Let's not be like every other forum out there that just bashes people for asking something stupid. If they knew the answer or how to find it, they wouldnt ask. Remember it's only a stupid question to you. That said, thank you everyone for all of your info. This site is awesome and we are all lucky to have it. Just keep it friendly and the more FD owners the better. Dont run off new people with stupid unhelpful comments. Take care.

What is going thorough the mind of of someone who comes on to a board that has existed for years with tens of thousands of postings and asks, say, 'Is the RX-7 a reliable car?' or 'What exhaust should I get?'

I mean, did it not occur to them that perhaps - just perhaps - someone might have asked such a basic question 3434 times before?

It is not only rude, it is stupid, and those people deserve the reactions they get.

And I'm sure I just opened myself up for all sorts of "Mature" comebacks from others. I am not trying to step on anyones toes, just sharing an observation to hopefully help people realize that a lot of people dont enjoy taking a beating everytime they need help. Just be a little more considerate and cut people a break. We all have been new, and not everyone wants the same thing for their car. If they want a loud BOV, who cares. Huge wing, who cares. I dont like to see riced out 7's either, but it's not my car. If they want help, help them. Only giving smart remarks is less of a contribution than asking questions that have already been asked.

I think it depends on the question. If its 'what kind of oil or spark plugs should I use'...that kind of question is worn out. But sometimes, a question like 'I have no secondary boost' although asked a million times, can be infomative, since there can be many causes depending on the symptoms.

I understand it gets annoying sometimes to have the same questions, but remember it's new to them. I have been here for a few months now, but the search button can be a pain in the butt to use for somethings as you get almost info overload and cant find what you wanted. By all means suggest the search button, because it's awesome, but be nice about it. Remember, most people have no idea it was covered before 100 times. If they knew they wouldnt have asked. I love this place. It cracks me up. Just a community morale issue. Take care everyone and keep those 7's running stong.

ummm... has anybody ever thought about just not responding to a question that they think is stupid? I'm a newbie too, and while some it it is quite funny, some of it is out of control. I think somepeople forget it is a "club" and not their life.

Oh **** . . . that's comedy

I've had people down me for asking newb questions and it's cool. I think it's more of a safe guard against ricers and people who take things too seriously. If you really want to learn you'll search and take a handful of "mature" comments, realizing it's only the internet and half the people on it are losers anyways

There are still some interesting discussions on here, and new products and ideas being kicked around. That's why a lot of members are here.

While asking before searching is a problem (and ruins searching for those that follow), I find poorly asked questions and meaningless subjects to be even more annoying. It makes me not want to help someone when they don't put any time or effort into asking their question(s). If I can even figure out what they are asking, it is unlikely that they will invest any time in understanding my response.

Here's a great web page about asking better questions:

I know it's all in good fun. And alot of it harmless. I am not referring to every question someone asks or every cirumstance. I was just pointing out that people are quicker to roast someone than they are to help someone.

I knew it would be a topic of debate, which is not why I posted. Just to bring awareness really. The FD forum is great though. It's a good balance of info, fun, and humor. Plus everytime a question gets re-asked, new input and ideas surface that werent considered last time. It always seems to work that way because people expereinces and knowledge are always changing.

Very well stated and very true. Maybe we could benefit from a "beginners" FD section or something. I am a member on an astronomy forum with a beginners section that is very good. There are respectful seasoned people that visit that section to help out people with "stupid" questions, like me, and as newbies learn what they are talking about, they learn to ask intelligent questions and become a contributing factor as opposed to an annoyance to others. Just a thought. And so begins the NBAT. (Newbie Bashing Awareness Thread)

I agree with Max. Some people put no thought or effort in to the question they are asking. Most people are not roasted for precise thoughtful questions. The morons who can't write anything readable will get roasted, and they deserve it for not making a good effort.

I completely agree with maxcooper. If a person is not smart enough to form an articulate and specific question they are certainly not going to be smart enough to digest the information I give them and understand what to do. Inevitably they ask another question that is bascially "Huh?"

Too many don't even try to help themselves and if they aren't willing to help themselves that means they aren't worth the effort because they've already proven they aren't willing to try. Case in point: People who don't even try to search and ask anyway. Why ask a question and hope for a response when you can get one instantly by searching? And then you have everyone who "I searched but I didn't find anything". Bologna. Also witness all of the "My car won't start. What's wrong?" type questions. If the person honestly knows so little about the starting system on the car that they are incapable of asking a more specific question they sure as hell aren't going to know what to do when you ask them about the starter solenoid or the fuel injection. That type of information can be learned on your own with a little effort but everyone wants everything spoon fed to them.

I know cars but knew exactly nada about the FD when I bought mine 4 and a half years ago but it's not hard to learn all you want if you're willing to look at what everyone else has already done. People try to reinvent the wheel too often. There is honestly a wealth of information on this forum and some of it is quite old. That doesn't mean it's no longer true! It's all out there for the taking but you have to get off your butt and get it.

The people who tell everyone to search consistently are more annoying than the dumb questions "Period."

I used to be nice and tell to SEARCH and then post a link about the simple SEARCH I did. Then that got to be too time consuming. If I see a post that asks the same thing and it looks they didn't make the effort of searching themselves, I just ignore it.

I traditionally only tell someone to search, but with giving a little more info or other terms they could use to search for. You should always be positive and constructive.

But, when I first got into RX-7s (back in the big list days before the forum) I read the list for MONTHS before I made my first post.

There are a number of newbies that come in here with VERY poorly worded and pointless questions, then get flamed for asking them. In my experience, people like that typically don't get smarter over time - they just get the car, screw it up royally and sell it, asking tons of idiot questions in the process. But, again, I never try to treat people poorly - either make an informative reply, or just pass it on for the next topic.

Dale

The problem with a beginners forum is that only beginners would be on it. Not very many experenced owner would waste the time surfing a beginners forum. The best answer is the search option.

I pretty much ignore all posts by people who have been members less than a year or people that I don't recognize..
