custom switch installs....

i've seen a few people who have switched head units on the radio, and under the radio there is either a blank panel, or a compartment type thing. what is this compartment, does it come stock on some rx7s? im replacing my stock stereo, and would like somewhere to conceal a few switches. can anyone give me info on the replacement, part #/price or anything about it. thanks

also, anyone with pictures of custom switch installs(a how-to would be nice along with it)....post a pic here. i've seen tons of different setups.

I have not installed the gauges yet but SAAB makes a plastic panel that fits into a din slot that allows the easy placement of up to three gauges. There is room for a cd radio player on the top slot. There was a post and picture with part numbers on this isite about nine months ago.

i'm sure it was optional on the base model. if the first owner chose to have the cd player the lower bay was the cd player or the tape deck, one of the two.

i'll pm you...

I have the compartment in my 93 base.

The Saab Gauge Holder is P/N 02-73-235, available at the dealership.

I have an extra pocket thing with the door that is kinda messed up. It's better than having a poorly fitting din cup or a hole in your dash. Need it? I can send you pics.

I thought the SAAB gauge holder has stopped production.. Where can you buy them at?

the saint-where'd you get your gauge holder from? In my base up under the tape deck I have an empty spot with a small flip door on it.. I was wondering if the SAAB gauge holder or any other holder allows correct fitament and the ability to close the flip door?!
