Could a bad knock sensor effect emissions?

I've been told that my knock sensor is loose, hence my knock readings at the 200 mark from just revving it in neutral.

Would this effect emissions from the ECU adjusting the timing?

Are you using the PFC? IIRC, the PFC doesn't do anything with the knock reading aside from display it.

I'll test with the stock ECU. The smog tests requires a check engine light.

The stock ECU does use the Knock Sensor, however I believe it just throws the car into limp mode (as well as CEL).

So no ill-effects on emissions?

I assume that limp mode means that it does kills boost/HP?

Well, I'm not sure what that would do to emissions. I can't imagine it affecting emissions but you never know with these cars! Yep, limp mode does cripple boost/hp.

could retard the timing which may cause you to fail a sniff test.. lots of other cars retard timing under excessive knock

Yea, that kinda makes sense.

I don't think too many people have experienced a bad knock sensor to failed emissions due to the timing being adjusted........
