Octane Rating with Additives (FYI)
Here is a link to two charts that tell you want octane booster work the best.
The Main page is http://europeancarweb.com/tech/0503ec_techboost/
But the good stuff is right here

Pretty Good info, I think
(((Keep that boost up)))

I was running a 30% mixture of toluene yesterday while we were tuning my car with my t78. On accident the car hit 19.5 pounds of boost while only being tuned at 15 and the car didnt ping or hesitate or anything except haul ***. I was pretty happy i had the toluene in there after that. I did a long term test on toluene (1.5 years) to test if it would eat up rubber gas line and it didnt affect it at all.

Thats really reassuring news, so the toluene is effective? I've been reading up on it, seems to be a great alternative to filling up on 100 octane all the time... Have you had any problems with it at all?

i used toulene in one of my old cars, half a tank of regular gas and half of toulene.
It was a 2 litre 16v engine, totally stock bar uprated plugs leads and coils and 300bhp of nitrous. No lowered compression nothing. Never blew up, never det, always ran great

yar it was a 160bhp engine with an extra 300bhp of nitrous running through a full wet kit (Very important its not a dry kit!) with a progressive controller and it was all installed in an 850kg FWD shell.
13.2 qtr with crappy tyres lol, and the whole setup cost me about $3000

oh, i forgot to mention though - you do have to be careful with toulene and how much you mix. If you add too much it can slow the burn down so much it actually continues to burn in the exhaust. Not sure what effect this would have on a rotary engine but i have known exhaust valves on 4 pot engines to get burnt up due to this, along with the cat.

erm quite alot, for me anyway - im in the UK and had to get a friend of mine who works at an aircraft refuelling station to get some for me. It cost me £2 a litre whereas normal 98 ron pump gas costs 86p a litre.
Luckily though you yanks get gas for about $1 a gallon lol dont you...so id imagine toulene is cheaper too

Yeah, a lot of us don't know that you guys really pay a lot more than we do. Somewhere on the order of $5 if I'm not mistaken. I think AZ is like that as well. I was in Japan in 95-96 and I seem to remeber it somewhere like 500 yen to the litre, though that may be exaggerated a bit. But then, you think in terms of inflation, we're I believe paying LESS that what we SHOULD be in that respect.

toluene can be quite expensive. I believe you can find it for a good price, but if you purchase it by the gallon around these parts, im pretty sure it is around $9 a gallon. If you buy it in bulk, its much cheaper. Its not actually a bad price regardless, considering what the cost of C16 race gas is. C16 goes for almost 10 dollars a gallon and it only has 2 more octane points. The thing is, toluene is unleaded so you can run it in a car with catalytic converters and it doesnt burn up O2 sensors as quick. I think its worth the trade off.

The Syclone/Typhoon guys run Toulene and Xylene and MEK from Home Depot when they want to go pass a bar of boost.

Toluene may affect the nervous system. Low to moderate levels can cause tiredness, confusion, weakness, drunken-type actions, memory loss, nausea, loss of appetite, and hearing and color vision loss. These symptoms usually disappear when exposure is stopped.
Inhaling High levels of toluene in a short time can make you feel light-headed, dizzy, or sleepy. It can also cause unconsciousness, and even death.
lowes/hdepot has it also and xylene. you can substitute xylene but bear in mind it is 117 octane so alter your calculations, and has the same carcinogenic properties of toluene. i wouldn't run too strong a mixture and too often. also if you live in a colder climate, it is going to attribute to harder starting.
The higher the octane # the harder the fuel is to burn. Ideally, you want as low an octane # as you can get without detonation (knock). This will give you the higher cylinder pressures... more work... more power...

As not to go into previous thread's topics, I'll search for the formula to get the desired octane level.
