correct tire sizing on FD's
I know this ? has been asked a lot of times, but this ? is specific to my setup not someone elses. I have 18's an now I have to buy tires the rims are 18x9 an 18x10 with a 45 offset. I am going to get springs to lower the car a bit but I dont have the money for complete suspension package yet. If I do not wanna rub badly what tire sizes should I get? Oh and anyone have any suggestions on springs I was thinking about Tannabe.

245x35x18 for your 18x9
285x30x18 for your 18x10's
Pirelli makes the front tires...hard to find in other brands in that size...
2nd choice for front would be 255's..but then with a 45mm offset you could potential run into issues depending on drop

if I go with a 285/30/18 is my ride gonna be harsh as hell? Some people say it will be way to rough, is this true?

what other size can you go width...
265 x35 x 18... is a little too narrow of a tire for a 10..they will work, but like a said the lip will stick out.
285x30x18 will have more sidewall then something like 275x30x18...If you are concerned about ride harshness...you should eventhink about 18's...I dont know what you tolerance level is..mine is pretty high and I dont think 18s' are that bad

255/35/18s on 18X9 +45 is fine. I should know - I had that size tire on 18X9 +42 and it fit fine.
Toyo (T1S) and Falken (GRB sumthin) both have 245/35/18s, but do not have 285/30/18s. A 265/35/18 is within basically all tire manufacturers' guidelines for a 10" wide wheel, though you will have a bit of lip sticking out as Johnny pointed out. The manufacturers recommend 9"-10" (or 10.5" in some cases), typically. See www.tirerack.com 's very helpful spec sheets on each tire: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compar...rk=1&do=Search Click on 'specs' for each model of tire, then scroll down the spec sheet to the size, then over to 'approved wheels widths'.
A 275/35/18 should be OK on the rear too, though it is a bit taller in profile then stock. However, when I had that combo I could not discern any really noticable changes in the speedo readout or in performance. Its there, just nothing to be overly concerned about.
Its kind of interesting that the Japanese have a different philosophy when pairing tires to wheels. They tend to mount narrower tires on wider wheels. For example, many Advan wheel ads in Japanese magazines feature examples like 18X9 with 225/40/18s and 18X10 with 255/35/18s. Legsports blue FD rides 18X10 all four with 265/35/18s.
Cool thing about the different Japanese magazines is that they list the tire/wheel size/offset of thier feature cars - more often then not.
The key thing to picking the corrrect tire fitment for the front is the overall diameter. You may have heard of FD owners having their fender lips pulled out when turning into a driveway at a faster then normal speed. Keeping the overall diameter of the front tire/wheel combo near that of stock is critical. The best size for this is 245/35/18.

Oh, and in general lo-profiles like the ones mentioned will ride harsher - but it will vary by brand. The last tires I had, 'regular' P Zero Assemetricals were VERY harsh. Supposedly the new PZero Rossos are bit more forgiving, hehe.
I'm going to try out SO3s next. Rishie - I want me wheels, damnit!

So now I am also putting on tannabe 2 inch drop springs. I am about to order my tires and here are the sizes I was thinking correct me if I am wrong the 18x9 rim in front with a 255/35/18 tire and the 18x10 in the rear with a 285/30/18 tire. Will this setup work? Put correct setup if I am wrong. And who makes these tire sizes with a fairly decent ride quality? thanks,

255 is the width of the tire (the portion that actually contacts the road ) in mm.
35 is the aspect ratio, and refers to the height of the sidewall, in mm. It requires a little math: take the width of the tire (255) and multiply it by the aspect ratio (35), then divide by 100.
18 is the diameter of the rim itself, in inches.

2" drop?
What? and you're worried about ride harshness? ...or is that someone else? I'm dropped 1.5" and my springs are 350/280 and I need to raise them because potholes, dips and speed bumps suck. I don't think you should go more that 1&1/4" for street.

Well there the tannabe 2 inch drop kit but I was told it doesnt actually drop your car 2 inches. Is this true is anyone running them. I remeber someone had them and loved them and said they dont actually drop it 2 inches. Give me some advice please

WTF...You're ordering aftermarket coil-overs that are stiffer than stock and you're putting on 18-inch wheels and you're worried about ride quality? Hello, McFly, anyone home?
1. With aftermarket coil-overs, you are raising the spring rate, the car will ride stiffer.
2. If you go to an 18-inch wheel, you are giving up 2-inches of sidewall. Obviously, there is much less tire to absorb impacts. The ride quality will suffer.

I found out the tanabe springs say 2 inch drop but only really drop your car about as much as racing beat springs. should I go with the tire size 285/30/18 in the rear and 255/35/18 in the front?
