since you should be able to run a bit more timming advance

I think most people use it as extra insurance and don't mind losing 5-20 hp and knowing their engine won't blow up. If you tune for it, you throw another variable into the mix. Sure it will make more power if you advance the timing or lean it out. It also increases the chance of something going wrong and popping a motor.

I think it is best used as a safety mod. I think our motors need all the extra safety it can get. When i get my microtech in, i will be running water injection and a mixture of toluene to make sure i dont blow up again. If I use high boost, I will be running race fuel and water injection. If I blow motor with this setup, I will be making the dreaded "swap". It will be bye bye rotary, and hello LS1. But, im hoping it doesnt have to come to that for a couple years or so.
